SIADH

For this first understand a few basic things about water and sodium

Remember to differentiate between CONTENT and CONCENTRATION.
Thus concentration is a ratio…Na per volume of water

So we can have THREE conditions causing hyponatremia

LOOK AT THE CONTENT. Hyponatremia can result from
INCREASED body water
NORMAL body water
DECREASED body water ..CONTENT.

The relative Content of Sodium will Determine CONCENTRATION

keeping Content and concentration in mind we can have hyponatremia with

Excess total body sodium and an even greater excess of total body water. (CHF, cirrhosis, renal failure)

Normal body sodium, but an excess total body water. (SIADH)

Deficit of total body sodium exceeds the deficit of total body water.
(Diuretics, Mineralocorticoid deficiency)

TRY to figure out the relation with HTN. if its too confusing dont worry. (i'll post it) IF u keep forgetting this stuff ur normal..took me ages to figure outgrin
