Hi Surfer, thank you so much for your input. I decided to prepare usmle step 2 as first and as my real goal and take EE later as I think the best way to prepare is to read thoroughly and understand totally.
Mymeghji, thank you so much again as I reread your advice and I think you give me a good direction and your good scores also convinces me that if I really want to get good scores, I should touch the base. Before I heard lots of people try to search all kinds of past exams for EE and try to do as many as they can. But the scored arenot very good and sometimes in the boundary to be failed. Now I think I got the whole idea, I will plan 6-7 month for the step 2 and then take 1-2 month for EE. I do agree with you that the EE tested contents are very bizare, some portions are focus too mcuh uncertain actually unnecessary stuff . By the way, I got kaplan video by e-bay and get the PDF notes dated 2001, I remember you suggest to get the latest one? Is that right. Thank you all your valuable inputs. I really appreciate.

Hi mymeghji ,

congratulations on your success. I wish if I also will be able to score like you. But i know it is a dream.
But i kindly appreciate your help for me to be successful

I'm an international graduate and hoping to do step 2 ck around April, May 2007. I have no idea what books to be read, and what Q bank to be done. ( I know that there are Kaplan, NMS....etc review books, First aid a review book, Kaplan, UW, Medrevu...Q banks
But I don't know what is the best. Since I don't have any friend or relative who has undergone this process, I'm crueless. At the same time I have to think about time, financial aspects as well as a very good score.Time because I try my best to be qualified for 2008 match. Financial because neither I nor my husband (grad. student) is earning. Good score because i need to obtain H1B, as well as need to be around my husband.
So please I need your help to start my prep.
First i want to select a good review book set. Please tell me the best in circulation, where to buy and is it a matter to buy an old edition. Then what is the best Q bank which simulate the exam.
This is what I have planned, to review books thoroughly for 1-1 1/2 months, do a Q bank, review books again for 2-3 weeks and do the exam. will it be suficient? I'm not a brillient student but average.
Please help me. Without your help i don't know how to initiate

Hi there everyone sorry for my radio silence

I have been busy preparing for my Step 3 exam. I have already secured a residency in Family Medicine which is exactly what I wanted.

Numita

I would stick to the Kaplan Notes and lots of good quality questions like USMLE World and Kaplan. CMDT is more useful for Step 3

hi u are really inspiring...congrats..i just wanted to ask u ..my cumulative uw score is 52...which i have done without any prep ...do u think can i score 99 with just 2 readings
thanku

hi mymeghji, i`ve been following ur posts.. phenomenal performance, i`m right now preparing for ck . you had a blog right? with all the high yeild stuff tested on the exam, i couldnt find the link, could you please post the link again? thank you.

  #133

A cumulative score of 52 in UWorld without having seriously studied is a pretty good score. Of course it matters whether that score is under time pressure i.e. standard paced or without time pressure i.e. self paced. If your score was without time pressure then you need to trim it down a little as in the exam you do not have the luxury of 4-5 minutes per question. But hey that is still a good start. With 2-3 good readings you will be in a position to do well. As for getting a 99 I hope you do but a better way to predict your score is to do the NBME forms when you have done the two readings that you want to do and the score you get in the NBME forms will help you project your expected score

About the high yield stuff, I do not have a blog but my simple advise is that the Kaplan courses adequately covers all the high yield stuff so if you do those thoroughly + lots of good quality Step 2 CK Qs like UWorld, Kaplan Q bank etc and that too under time pressure then you will have covered all the major topics and you will be good to go for the exam

Hi mymeghji,

Congratulations for your amazing score!! I passed my step1 some weeks ago but it was not a high score, it was below 85 p. So, after I read my score I felt really sad. I´m applying for Pediatrics (not a competitive program) but I´m an IMG, I should obtain a better score.

However, it was only a bad exam, right? And now I need to do all my best for the step 2Ck. Could you suggest me which are the best sources for me? I have just started with the weak subjects on my step1 and I try to be focused on them. Do you think it´s a good idea? What do you think about the Blue prints books for this exam? Are they useful?
Do you know which is the best period to take the exam, I mean the months where the USA students usually do not take it?

Thanks in adavnce!

NJ

NJones

When you give the exam does not make a difference, as all the exams are standardised to be of the safe level of difficulty.

The Blue print series for Step 2 are great books and you could use them as an additional source of study for Step 2 CK but the best is the Kaplan course, i.e. the videos and the books

If you feel that your Step 1 score is lower than you would want then you should work really hard to up your game and score an over 90 in this exam

Good Luck with your Prep. If I can help you with any other advice and then do post your questions and I will do my best to answer

HELLO,

I AM HAVING MY EXAM IN A MONTH.IS IT NECESSARY TO DO KAPLAN Q BANK-22 BLOCKS.IS FA/CRUSH READING ADVANTAGEOUS?PLEASE GIVE ME FEW TIPS TO READ LAST 40-45DAYS BEFORE EXAM? THANK U IN ADVANCE.

  #139

I would suggest that if you haven't done it yet then you should do at least 1 full q bank either USMLE World which is better or the Kaplan Q bank + either First Aid for CK which I feel is better or Crush the boards before you go for your exams. I am assuming that you have already adequately covered the Step 2 CK syllabus adequately at least 2-3 times over and this is your final prep

mymeghji:
Did you take MCCQE part 1? I am preparing for CK and MCCQE part 1 this moment. I am doing UW Step2 CK now. I wonder if UW Step 3 will help my MCCQE part 1 preparation because MCCQE part 1 also has CCS in there. Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Thank you!
