Hi deals I think you should try and use the 2006 notes and between the 2002 and 2006 notes I would expect some change. Remember every year the exam shows a slow drift and in 4-5 years it does show a definite shift in the material tested so try and stay as current as you can. There would probably not be much difference between 2004, 2005 & 2006 but 2002 is not exactly current. Your question about statistics, the day you find a book that makes statistics look interesting please let me know, I think the 2005-2006 notes cover the essentials of the Epidemiology & Statistics covered in the Step 2 CK exam quite comprehensively so I would stick to mastering that content

mymeghji your score was awesome and your post was very helpful .thanks a lot. and God bless. i gratuated 98,i have passed step one on July 06, scored 90 and now trying to prepare myself for step 2 CK, i noticed that you mentioned 6 months would be enough to get ready for the exam. i have a little son that i have to take care of so i have 5 hours a day to study, do you think it still would take me 6 months to get ready or more? and my second question is: i have Kaplan notes 2002, do you think i can find 2005 version on ebay? third question, do you advice study step3 Qbook for step2 ? ( since i noticed some pll with high score adviced that) thanks a lot Layla

Layla Q 1) If you use your 5-6 hours a day efficiently, it will be more than enough to cover the syllabus 3 times over in 6 months Q 2) I have used the Kaplan Center Prep and got my notes officially but I hear that you can buy second hand 2005 notes on ebay Q 3) I would discourage you from doing the Step 3 notes for the Step 2 CK exam. Step 3 is about management, management and management only. Where as Step 2 CK is about mechanism of disease and diagnosis. It touches management very superficially and that much is well covered in the Step 2 CK notes. As I have said again and again in my earlier posts it is better to touch up certain aspects on basic sciences rather than wasting time on Step 3 material I hope that I have answered all your queries All the very best MYMEGHJI

hello mymeghji, what a wonderful score you got!! Do you prepare all you studies full time and how much time you put on them ? I have a full time job which is office oriented and the job load is not too heavy. do you think it is ok for me to study 4-5 hours during weekdays and 6-7 hours weekend and holidays for 6 months and the last 3 weeks to be full time (I have vocations). I want to read Kaplan notes (new version) and watch videos first time to get familiar with the topics. 2-3 month. then second reading 2-3 month for doing UW questions. Besides that, I prepare Canadian exam first which is similar to step 2. do you think it is good enough? thank you in advance for your valuable inputs. Meg

Hi guys Trypeony555 I studied full time about 6-8 hours a day but if you are able to do 4-5 hours and more hours on the weekend then 6 months is enough. I agree that the Canadian exam is similar 'cos I have also just passed the MCCEE with a score of 737 and you can use the Kaplan books for studying Internal Medicine and Pediatrics but you must read surgery, Ob/Gyn, Psychiatry and Preventive Medicine/Community Health from the Toronto notes as well. If you are doing the MCCQE 1 then please use the Toronto notes for everything. Test yourself regularly with lots of questions for Step 2 CK Jatinder Well done on your Step 1 exams. Coincidentally I got the exact same score in my Step 1. You should actually do very well in your Step 2 CK exam. I used only the Kaplan books + videos but I did the UWorld q bank, The Kaplan q book and bank, all 3 NBME forms. That's enough and brush up on some of your Clinically relevant Step 1 basics. Good luck with your exams. Set your target at 99 this time

Congratulations! Everything is possible if there is goal. I've heard USMLE is accepted in Canada. Is it true or not? Good luck in CS!

Wow. Then good luck in matching! You passed MCCEE. Did you try to find residency in Canada? I am in Toronto and my friend doesn't recommend me take MCCEE, because it's very difficult to find a residency in Canada. All of the best to you!

Hello Mymeghji, I received my MCCEE results a few days ago. I got 600, though have no clue how good it is. ofcourse it seems to be 85th percentile!!! I've already registered to take Step 2 in Jan-March 2007. I'm almost done with my readings and going to do questions very soon.

Hi mymeghji, thank you for your inputs. What a stunning score you got for MCCEE. Congradualations !! You are really my role model. Actually I am in ontario canada and my plan is to get MCCEE done first and then usmle 2. Though it is hard to get into residency here in ontario but the chance is still there as I have a colleague whose wife just got the position last year after 5-6 years fulltime preparation. Do you have any suggestion for MCCEE prepare? I start to do some practice exams now. By your experiences, what is real difference between MCCEE and USMLE step 2? I thought most parts are similar and tested topics are similar but the tested details are different. do you think it is much effecient to do past exams for EE prepare? Though it is well known difficult to get postion here in ontario, but I am still a little bit stubborn to try this first. So probably I am really too stubborn and I take EE first seriously. Would you mind advice me the right direction to prepare this? Your score for EE is probably the best I have heard. Congradulations to you and good luck in your match!! I am sure you will get your ideal position with your excellent scores!! Hi Surfer, congradulations to your EE. Your score is very good. I heard EE is even much harder to pass. Would you mind to share your experience to prepare this exam? In addition to TN, what kind of questions you did? Many thanks in advance!!

The answer to your question about the difference between the EE and USMLE Step 2 CK is that the Step 2 CK is a well structured, fairly predictable exam. The EE is a vague exam, it is hard to use a single source to prepare for this exam, because the EE tests basic sciences, clinical knowledge, focuses a lot on preventive medicine and community health and there are some vague but common sense questions. The reason why I did so well in my EE is because I did my USMLE Steps 1 , 2 CK and 2CS first and then I used the Kaplan notes to study internal medicine and pediatrics but I used the Toronto notes for surgery, Ob/Gyn, Psychiatry and Preventive medicine/Community health. Do the 4 Self Assessment exams available on the Medical Council of Canada website because they give you an accurate feel of the actual exam. I did not do any of the past remembered questions collected by people as I feel that most of those questions are distorted and have wrong answers and end up misleading you. It is much better to study widely and extensively and try to get a good understanding of the concepts and mechanisms. I agree with you that it is tough to get into residency in Canada but you know what they say when the going gets tough, the tough get going so don't let that bother you keep at it

Hello Trypeony555, I started my first-time reading in May. Even though I had registered for MCCEE I set my target for USMLE Step 2. I took my time studying a bit in depth, and used kaplan notes just as my framework. I read Pediatrices, OB/GYN, Surgery, Psychiatrics, and Statistics/ Epidemiology once according to my schedule, and by that time I had only a week to MCCEE exam, so I just relaxed and sat the exam on 7th of Sep. I just did about 300 hand-written MCQs with a friend of mine over a few days before the exam. I don't think I've got a great score at all. If you are preparing for it, you can do even better. Just continue your readings and try to cover every thing; in my opinion kaplan notes are good enogh for the most part. However you may want to read different types of psychotherapy and community health also from TN- for some reasons they love different types of psychotherapy!!! Hope this helps. Good luck with your upcoming exam.

Hi Surfer, thank you so much for your input. I decided to prepare usmle step 2 as first and as my real goal and take EE later as I think the best way to prepare is to read thoroughly and understand totally. Mymeghji, thank you so much again as I reread your advice and I think you give me a good direction and your good scores also convinces me that if I really want to get good scores, I should touch the base. Before I heard lots of people try to search all kinds of past exams for EE and try to do as many as they can. But the scored arenot very good and sometimes in the boundary to be failed. Now I think I got the whole idea, I will plan 6-7 month for the step 2 and then take 1-2 month for EE. I do agree with you that the EE tested contents are very bizare, some portions are focus too mcuh uncertain actually unnecessary stuff . By the way, I got kaplan video by e-bay and get the PDF notes dated 2001, I remember you suggest to get the latest one? Is that right. Thank you all your valuable inputs. I really appreciate.

Hi mymeghji , congratulations on your success. I wish if I also will be able to score like you. But i know it is a dream. But i kindly appreciate your help for me to be successful I'm an international graduate and hoping to do step 2 ck around April, May 2007. I have no idea what books to be read, and what Q bank to be done. ( I know that there are Kaplan, NMS....etc review books, First aid a review book, Kaplan, UW, Medrevu...Q banks But I don't know what is the best. Since I don't have any friend or relative who has undergone this process, I'm crueless. At the same time I have to think about time, financial aspects as well as a very good score.Time because I try my best to be qualified for 2008 match. Financial because neither I nor my husband (grad. student) is earning. Good score because i need to obtain H1B, as well as need to be around my husband. So please I need your help to start my prep. First i want to select a good review book set. Please tell me the best in circulation, where to buy and is it a matter to buy an old edition. Then what is the best Q bank which simulate the exam. This is what I have planned, to review books thoroughly for 1-1 1/2 months, do a Q bank, review books again for 2-3 weeks and do the exam. will it be suficient? I'm not a brillient student but average. Please help me. Without your help i don't know how to initiate
