cogratulation for the excellent score.i just wonder u adviced to read the immune deficiences from first aid .i think it is written clearly in paediatric kaplan notes .and the immune deficiencies in first aid is one page at the end of microbiology chapter.am i getting you right i am just trying to clarify things thanks

I used both the sources i.e the Kaplan pediatric notes and the immunomlogy section in First Aid Step 1. The pediatric notes give you the clinical aspects of immune deficiencies but the notes in the Step 1 First Aid give you a review of the basic mechanisms of these immune deficiencies, so I would suggest you read both and since upto 10% + in Step 2 CK is basic sciences you better know the basic mechanisms of commonly tested diseases

Dragonfly First of all very very well done on your excellent Step 1 score. Now about your query, success in Step 2 CK depends heavily on a good understanding of basic sciences and with your excellent Step 1 score you are set to score another 99 in Step 2 CK. Keep in touch with some aspects of the basics science (I have emphasized some in my earlier posts on this topic), have a good methodical approach to your Step 2 CK material (Kaplan is great), practice lots and lots of good quality questions and you will be good to go. I don't think not having a lot of hands on clinical experience will affect your Step 2 CK performance. That comes a little into play with the Step 2 CS and of course even more so with Step 3

Deals For reviewing metabolism all you need to know is the Overview of energy metabolism and that is very well covered in the Kaplan biochemistry notes in Chapter 11, pay special attention to the diagrams about the metabolic profiles of the pre and post absorptive states. Do not bother to read any further as Step 2 CK does not test details about biochemistry like Step 1 but instead it does expect a general understanding of the overall metabolism of the human body and that like I said is succinctly covered in chapter 11 of the Kaplan biochemistry notes Good luck with your exam

thanks again for ur quick reply, but in my step 1 exam i studied biohemistry from first aid and BRS so i dont have kaplan notes chapter 11 as u mentioned anyway i ll stick with your advice and review it from first aid but i ll tell u something .i took step 2 exam before and i was not will prepared and i remember this question very well because really it pissed me off remember the equation in ATP generation which is ^G =log {C}{D}/{A}{b} THIS EQUATION IS FOR MEASURING THE CHANGE IN FREE ENERGY IN ANOTHER WORDS THE GENERATION OF ATP FROM METABOLIC FUELS ,YOU WILL FIND IT IN BRS CHAPTER 4 ,I GOT THIS EQUATION IN THE EXAM AND ASKED IF ^G IS NEGATIVE HOW THE REACTION WILL PROCEED ??????????????????????? OF CORSE I LOOKED IT UP IN THE BOOK AND IT MEANS THE REACTION WILL PROCEED SPONTANEOUSLY i just wanna ask u did u get such tricky questions in ur exam i mean it happens ! ANOTHER THING STATISTICS EXACTLY HOW AND WHAT TO STUDY IS KAPLAN IS ENOUGH THANKS FOR UR REPLY

I do not think that Questions like the one you say occur ever in the Step 2 CK exam and also I think the Statistics taught in the Kaplan Videos + Notes is enough to answer most Statistics Qs that appear on the Step 2 CK test

Thank you DOCNAR, From what you tell me disciplined self study should be good enough for you. Live lectures in my opinion are not as effective as things do not go at your pace, often they cram a lot of information in a very short period of time with no time to review in between and usually when there is a larger group of participants you do not get fair access to the faculty and even if you do their emphasis is more in finishing the syllabus rather than addressing individual weakenesses.

Pradder-Willi The Kaplan notes and video on preventive medicine have a good review. Additionally you should review the pediatrics section for immunization. If you want the best source however you should consult the US Preventive medicine task force recommendations for 2005 The link is as follows http://www.ahcpr.gov/clinic/pocketgd.htm Let me know if you're still unhappy
