During a clinical study, a researcher investigates methods of accelerating marrow engraftment following bone marrow transplantation in cancer patients. A synthetic glycoprotein, similar in function to granulocyte colony-stimulating factor [G-CSF], is designed. WHICH of the following is a CHARACTERISTIC of G-CSF activity that must be taken into account to assure similar biological function?

OOOPS here are the choices;

1] Activation of a specific cell-surface receptor
2]Display of cross-species functionality
3] Down regulation of cell growth
4] Production by endothelial cells
5] Stimulation of megakaryocytic cell production

Thanks

E?

G-CSF stimulates the production of RBCs, leucocytes, and plateletes?

A?

i know that GCSF stimuluates the myeloid line. i dont know that it stimulates megakaryocytes (platelet precursors).

A ? for the same reasons Tolito mentioned...

more info.

GMCSF is the one that stimulates teh whole line of myeloid.
il5 for eosinophils
GMCSF for monocytes (M CSF) and PMN (G CSF)
thrombopoietin for platelets, RBS and basophils.

SO G CSF is specific for PMN. (option 5 is wrong)

what is the answer???

thanks tolito, I review and exactly as you said.

I go with 1 now,

But I see option 4 is also correct, GCSF is produced by monocytes. fibroblasts, and endothelial cells.

Tolito and robin are right, however, my understanding is that the qst is asking about the characteristic of GCSF, not necessarily it's production site, I looked it up on several credible websites and the only answer that sounded correct is option 1.

2--could not find this info', though studies have been carried out in mice.
3---UP-regulation of WBC line
4--?
5-Leukocyte linear.

Pretty sure it is 1

1 is the correct answer: G-CSF, called Filgrastim or Lenograstim

The one which activates the other cell lines too is GM-CSF (granulocyte-macrophage-colony-stimulating-factor):
It got an erythropoetic and a weak thrombopoetic activity (NO lypmphopoetic activity).

Its name is Sargramostim or Molgranostim
