Hi folks,
I just tried OASIS trick few minutes ago and it was indicated that I passed. I hope this is 100%reliable.
I just wanted to share my exam experience with everybody. I took my exam in LA on March,14. I didn't have much time,so I arrived LA on March,11 and still have jet lag. I felt terrible the morning of the eam, but the SPs are all nice and they are trying to help.

Here's my opinion :
- FA and USMLE world are enough for variety of cases.
- Like everybody said, practice is a key. You have to do it everyday. I had a partner from usmlebuddies.com which is really really the great help for me.
- Cases are common. Try to spend few minuted before going into the room think about what you want to ask. Write down on the white paper some important questions because you tend to forget after going into the room. Don't worry if you are the last person entering the room.
- Few months is enough if you practice everyday.

Finally, I want to say that I am IMG. I am doing my subspecialty which doesnot involve with any physical examination. I haven't really done any physical exam for at least 5 years, but I passed. This is mainly English and communication skill test.

Good luck for everybody !!!

Hello,

I have my exam coming very very soon. I was wondering about the piece of paper that they give you - so it is an all white A4 format of a piece of paper? You take notes on it while in the room, but when you write your patient note - do you hand write it or do you type it on a computer? If you hand write it - do you use a different piece of paper for it, than the one you took notes on while in the room with the patient? Also, on the door there is some patient information, but when you enter the room do you have access to the same information i.e. is there a piece of paper saying what was on the door or do you have to remember everything that was on the door?

I've been practicing cases, but realized I don't know the technical details about all these note writing. I would appreciate a lot if you could answer me.smiling face

raised eyebrow I wanted to post my questions only once, not three times. I don't know what happened and how to delete the duplicate posts. This is so embarassingconfused

Research survivor,

Yes, the proctor will give you a paper about the A4 size. ( I think the color is blue.) You will take note and everything on that paper during the encounter. When I did the patient note, I typed it. It's very convenient. ( I like it because it's showed on the computer how much apce left.) If you want to write, they provide another one on the desk.

For the doorway information, I believe that there is another copy within the room. However I haven't used it. I wrote all the vital signs on the blue paper before I entered the room.

Hope this telp
good luck !!!!

hi, i am taking my exam in LA in 2 days, i had a couple of questions

1. do we take a flash light, reflex hammer, etc. 2. do we shake hands when we walk in?

i would appreciate if you fill me in

Hi dokyjun,

Everything you need is provided in the room. You cannot bring any of your own except a coat and stethoscope.

You should shake hand with the SP when you walk in except the patient who comes with shoulder pain.

Dear research advisor,

The piece of paper that they giv eyou going into the room is for your notes only, When at the doorway just write down the patients name, make sure that vitals are within normal limits then forget about them. As in the first aid patient note format under vital sign you will just write WNL (within normal limits). When in exam dont write too much on paper just thing you might forget as you are using valuable time to write that could be used for physical exam, remember time is precious in this situation. You can write or type your patient note but if your handwriting is legible I would advise you write because you are probably abel to fit more into the space when you write. My writing is terrible and I still chose to write for the space reason. If you use USMLE world and first aid you will be fine and make sure you practice. If you cant find a partner do what I did just read the opening scenario and close you eyes and act out the whole encounter in your head, what questions you would ask, the responses, the physical exam then what your differential would be and your labs/investigations. Hope this helps you and was not too much, I am sitting here awaiting my results and thought that Id try and help some people if I could.

SHOULD WE SHAKE HAND AND SAY "NICE TO MEET U" TO SOME S.P WITH DEPRESSION/DIZZINESS/HAVING OBVIOUS PAIN?
