firstly i think u have a gr8 chance amongst imgs for radio bcoz of scores and lors.. try for some radio research and s3 since u have lots of time.. u can do pgy2 im.. u can also look for vacant spots in radio.. u can also go to aneas, neuro, nuclear medicine.. i wud also suggest u2 try for nuclear medicine - as in my humble opinion its a slightly similar branch to radio.. im not aware of its competitiveness. pay is good also.. there is pakistani img with similar creds to u on this forum called adeelmd who matched into radio.. ask for his opinion and where he applied.. do keep us posted mate.. may u be next yrs img success story apurva

untrue.. ur prelim and radio match are 2 separate things to the best of my knowledge.. and none gets cancelled if u fail to match into the other.. the scenario of gettin into radio but not prelim is more dangerous as u stand to lose the radio match if u dont find anythin by may - rare case.. as most places which scramble for prelim spot in postmatch wud readily give u if u have a rad spot in bag.. also ur pd cud pull strings if required as u will come to know the result of u not matchin into a prelim spot 2 days before u actually know where u matched.. and most rad programs get their applicants accepted into their own prelim prog if the applicant requests it.. remem its also a headche for the rad pd to go to postmatch in may with an empty spot.. gl apurva

Apply to as many programs as possible (i applied to 194 radiology and 60 prelims) as long as you do this, you should get a radiology spot, and a prelim spot pretty easily. Get Iserson's guide to getting a medical residency and read it backwards and forwards. As long as you interview well, you should get in. What location (state) are you living at right now? (location is VERY IMPORTANT) Don't go for nuclear medicine, just stick with radiology; my creds aren't nearly as strong as yours, so I am sure you can get radiology. How many us lor's are from radiologists? When did you graduate? Check out auntminnie.com, the forums are very helpful. Try searching the archive about old matches.. that helped me out a lot. If you match in prelim and not in rads (unlikely if you work at it) you can always reapply to rads, and most medicine departments will let you continue on as a pgy-2. You don't have to repeat any years, but you might end up with a free year of having nothing to do (because radiology will be 2009)

I just got your mail (it was in bulk) and sent you a reply. Hmm, this is just me speculating, but I think if you somehow relocate to ny or nj during the match you will have a much better shot of getting a residency. There are a lot of radiology programs in the new york area, and radiology is an extremely geographically oriented game. You might want to ask the guy who wrote you the lor about this; but moving to new york (during the match) should increase your chances of getting interview calls from the area. don't apply to internal med categorical as a back up. Stay away from nuclear medicine also.
