Dr. Goljan says that iron deficiency is the only microcytic anemia with an increased RDW(red blood cell distribution width). I understand that Thalasemia won't increase the RDW because it is a genetic disease and so the child is born with microcytic anemia. But I don't get why sideroblastic anemia or anemia of chronic disease will not increase RDW. Can someone plz explain? thanksgrin
