Hi I´m from Mexico, Just finished my career and want to work on USA. I need your help.
Recently contacted RT Medical Exchange L.L.C and they´re said to offer: free housing, material for USMLE (123), salary 200 usd/month to prepare you in a time of 9 months (3 per each USMLE test), they place you in a hospital and you have to return 150 000 USD in 5 years...
How does this sound to you? Would it be better to go on my own? I really appreciate to orientate me thank you. email sergio_de_gante@hotmail.com

Hi, I am from china studying medical.I am 1st year student. and I severely want to practice in USA. So,I have to give USMLE. But I have lots of fear about that. Is it the hard exam for undergraduate because I am going to give this exam after 2 year.Can you please tell me which books should I prefer for this exam as a text that can give me strength for exam. please reply me.thank you.

hello Askdoc,hello p53!!! hello, i'm an IMG doctor who graduated last year! i passed step 2 ck and CS,my CK score was 82/200!! i did step 1 and i got the result 2 days ago that i failed!! it was a huge shock to me!! i prepared for it about 4 minths,3-4 hrs/day!!!! i know i should've prepared much better!! i'm planning to retake it as soon as possible, so i'm desperatelly seeking ur advice, can i redo it in 2 months time if i study no less than 10 hrs/day!!!! do i have to attend the liveprep kaplan course,the nearest one is in Miami on 15th Octobr!! or DVDs and kaplan notes will be just fine!!! i feel i'm so damn lost!!! i really am...i need some support and real facts!!! are my chances in getting a residency position going real down after my second attemd,especially because i'm applying to only one State programs where my fiance is!!! what shall i do!!!! i need help
askDoc most of the times i have a problem in recalling the ino but some subjects such as biochem i had a problem in the knoweldge itself.........any help!!!

thank u for the file that u uploaded. i saw some members have written that they cudnt open this file..so for those who dont have microsoft office word 2007..i am uploading the file again that can be opened wth previous versions of MS office word..i.e. .doc file type.

thank you so much, askdoc for your efforts. I too am an old IMG, graduated in 2000, did my residency and fellowship, so I know I'm in for an uphill climb. hi ASKDOC n others,ur posts r really amazing boss,hats off to u,but plz help me,plz plz...SORRY TO SAY GUYS,i FAILED in S1 ,so now im not able to figure out,what to do now...i had dun KAPLAN's all NOTES thrice reading.i got tapes later so did TAPES of BS,genetics,biochem but didnt do 4 others(6months approx).For PAtho,i startd of wit goljan audio n bk 2geder,but it seemd lot time consuming n sum guys says Kap patho is sufficient,so i read kap patho;couldn't find an source 4 BRS...aftr 2nd read of major sub,started wit Kap Q bank,n was progressing,quite well,reacd frm 29 to 34 in first 10-15 blocks...n den started wit UW,but was feeling low as da scores wernt gr8,hardly 18,19,25,in da first three blocks,so again studied 4 few days(wit kap Q bank side by side , 2nd read of immuno n bichem)...but den sum guys said ki solve UW properly wit hardly 35 days to go,so i focussed on it again,but now da time was less to finish it in time,so i took it in tutorial mode n just started marking answers whichever i felt,but read da explanation completely,n wrote down da main expln objective in notes,i hardly made it in time(2 blocks rem),but couldn't extend it...i plannd to read first aid but didnt get proper time,i thout of extending my exam date but no dates available,so next 16 days i gav 3rd read to kap notes...n went 4 my exam,now im in soup,im not getting now wat to do,rite now planning 4 Indian PG exams will b STupid...going 4 GRE route will need new planning,n den giving S1 again will b frustrating,...but im thinking of giving it one more try 4 sure....in 2months,but what to do in those 2mns is da main Q,----i got low scores in BS,PHAR,PHY,HISTO,micro/immuno,endo/repro,rs--plz HELP me out guys,im DEPRESSED n feeling very LOW,bcoz for last 4 mns i focussd on my studiez completely full day,no long breaks taken,hardly left my home 4 any reasn...still score 73 percentile....now im thinking to give it in 2 mns,but wat to read i dunno....plz HELP BUDDY...im very THANKFUL TO all on this site 4 all da HELP u gav,but SORRY couldnt mak it this time,i HOPE to make it NEXT TIME...

Thank you askdoc, but I tend to advise people to use the less books possible, and to review them over and over again. Not everybody can do 12-hour study days. Anyway,your post has been the most inspiring thing I have read on how to ace the exam. God bless U, askdoc!

My questions are to all in this forum and also to askdoc.
First time I got confused when I read topic "Kaplan is not enough" at this forum.
First I did not like it probably of internal defense because I was depending completely on Kaplan.( without their lecture DVDs).
I am sure many of us before they start studying look for best study material, and many resources tell , Kaplan is no 1.
When I first read the topic, "KAPLAN IS NOT ENOUGH", I read all posts and decided to add USMLE world and FA in my kaplan plan(+DVDs), first time.
We all know its not easy to review long textbooks near exam, because this exam you need to know all subjects and reproduce all in 8 hrs.
I appeared twice for step 1 could not score more than 50% correct while depending alone on Kaplan books.
you need to know concepts and master them and later see how it can be questioned by exam, which is unlimited. Sometimes it looks mission impossible.
But I am sure there must be a perfect plan.
PLEASE! Somebody got to help me and tell if my following plan is perfect or not and what changes should I do to get perfect plan.
1. KAPLAN lecture note and lecture DVDs.
2. For question bank I am using USMLE WORLD, and NBME( not using Kaplan Q bank), cause I think NBME is more authenticate.
3. FA book but not their question bank.

Different people use Kaplan LN in different ways, so i depends on how you use and interact with the books. I read many exam experiences of people doing excellent on the exam just studying Kaplan LN and a minimum amount of other sources. Master your Kaplan LN, refer to your Text Books when you feel that you are not grasping the fact and essencials good enough. When you are almost done with all your readings, do UW questions. Do them throughly and actively. Master all the facts in UW. Then please, do not take the USMLE Step 1 exam again till you take an NBME test and pass it comfortably because i dont think that you can afford failing another time.
Master Kaplan LN + refer to Text Books when needed + master UW Qs and facts .... DO NOT TAKE THE EXAM TILL YOU PASS COMFORTABELY ON "NBME"
If you read the whole article by "askdoc", im sure you would have a good idea on what you should do, so JUST DO IT!
Best of luck with your preparation.

I took the exam and received a 74/283 last month and am retesting on the 22 of Jan. Just wondering if they have changed the NBMEs at all scince last month or if they plan to change them soon?
