Hi everyone, I need help on this.i'm an IMG,graduated more than 5 yrs ago and planning to take step1 in 3 months. Is it really doable?I have Kaplan lecture notes,Qbook and webprep(lectures), FA, Goljan materials and plan to get kaplan Qbank. Can one realistically finish all these in 3 months.I'm even confused where to start;read first aid first or go thru the kaplan notes first.if the materials are too many, what should i cut off?can anyone help with a realistic schedule?I've been postponing this exam for a long time but i need to match in 2007. Pls advice. How do i make this possible?your thoughts will be highly appreciated.

for me 3 months would be too short if you have never gone through your step 1 books, but who knows, you may have been a great medstudent and those things pay off, as for me, I was not such a good student and need to take my time, i also hope to get some advice here. I kind of went through all my notes, I am also aiming to attempt for the exam in 3 months. are you full time student now?

This is how I'll do it, but this is only theoretical ( I'm studying for more than 3 months and i'm still at second reading.). First be determined. this is the most important. second choose only one book for every subject, because I dont't think you'll have time to read more. Start with kaplan lectures and add notes to your Fa. Do one subject in 5-6 days. This is very hard but if you are determined you can do it, study actively, make notes, try to figure out what is important to know, there are certain topics that are a must. you'll need to study at least 8-9 hours /day, so make a study plan, a realistic one. Then just memorise Fa, read it 2-3 times and I think is enough. The last month do at least 50 Q daily . The most important subjects are pathology, physiology, pharma, microbi (not sure though) Also read exam experiences of others because they are very helpfull,(there is one person who learned 3 weeks and pass the exam so, see what is best for you) ..again this is only my opinion it may work or not...good luck also be aware that is almost too late for 2007 match, read the forum for this problem also...

hi musuq and valia, thanks for ur advice.I will classify myself as an average student.Have already itarted a residency program in my country but left it to study here in the states . i will try to make the best use of my time for 2007 match even if it means scrambling(postmatch) .if however i dont score too well in the practice questions, i will have no choice but to move it . thans again.

well you got good advise there zalato. check out the links in support forum for books and alos in exam experience wher you will find what books are recommende. 3 months is a long enough time if you are really dedicated adn have the time too. but remember, the general advise is to sit the exam at your optimal so you score your best. a second attempt is usually not as strongly valued by the centres. so dont hurry to sit but go when you are at your optimal. good luck

Hi Tolito, thanks a lot. sometimes i feel so pressured to get this over with and i feel i dont have enough time to go thru everything and at the same time i cant just rely on first aid and qbank only. i just need to have a plan and follow thru.Any more suggestions.

kaplan stuff is good by what everyone says but it looks like you also need to have teh video of the lectures to get the best out of them. if you ahve the video, then you may be able to get by with what you have. otherwise, you will need to supplement with other books. here is the link to what is being recommended http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/31963 a time table is very important. you can judge from that if it is feasible to sit the exam from the amout of study you can put in in a day. the bottomline is to do wihat is comfortable for you. but be diligent. that is important. if you take days off studying, you will lose steam adn you will also forget what you have read. so go for it gently and pick up steam and just keep rolling.
