smoking is known to be associated with cancer death. it is said to be the most common cause. lung cancers are the most common cause of cancer death in male and female.

i agree that smoking is a controlable risk factor for cancer in general. But if usmle says which lung ca is not directly related to smoking. Id have to go with the above 2 plus large undifferentiated carcinoma and bronchial carcinoid tumor, {maybe its me but it seems like there are a lot of tricky qs to be asked about cancer, lung ca, metastasis, smoking and death.}

Though adenocarcinomas are the most common type of lung cancer in nonsmokers and adenocarcinomas, including bronchioloalveolar carcinomas, are less frequently associated with a history of smoking (than squamous or small cell carcinomas), still, greater than 75% of them are found in smokers, so it isn't correct to say that adenocarcinomas aren't associated with or related to smoking.
mjl1717, what do you mean under the word 'directly' ?

OK perhaps i didnt i express clearly. I should say that squamous cell and small cell lung ca. both centrally located and secreters have the strongest association with smoking. nod
