hey guys

i have done the mle 1 and 2. scored 99 on both the steps.

applied fr visa for csa frm mumbai.

got rejected.

now i m in uk. have done plab. hunting fr jobs.

am in a bad state of affairs now.

what i dont understand is that if they dont want to give visa fr csa then what is the whole point of letting fmgs take the mle.
i mean, i spend money and energy on the mle, managed 99 on both steps. and now i m told that i cant enter usa fr the csa.
all hard work into trash......!!
i feel it is all a gimmick by the ecfmg to extract money from fmgs.
coz if usa wants docs, then visa shud be given.

all this is damn depressing.

if any1 has been thru the same, plz lemme know and advise if possible.

Hi to all the IMG who have been refused a visa, i also belong to this category. i have been refused visa to go to the US for step 2 CS. The reason the consul gave me is that he can’t believe that my stay is going to be temporary. (then he gave a paper on which is written........ you have not shown that you have sufficiently strong family, social, or economic ties to your place of residence to insure that your stay in the US will be temporary......)
I think I had every thing to be able to convinced him that I am going there for a short stay, for the ECFMG and made it clear that i have no intention to remain there. but he told me he can’t believe that i will be there only for a short stay. ( I have a well paid job, visa letter from ECFMG, good bank account, my house contract……. But I am single and of African origin, (though I live in Europe).
This last points (single and from a third world country) seem to be very important to the consul in deciding whether to issue a visa or not. he just glance through some of my documents, i don't think he reads and understands them.
All Europeans citizen collect the visa without any difficulty, but if from a third world……. No way!!!

It is true that the state department said applicants for non immigrant visa have to convince the consulate official that their stay will be temporary, but if the consul don’t want to believe, I cannot force him.
What next to do? any suggestion will be very helpful.
Losing all this time and money in preparing for the various USMLE exams is very sad and depressing.
I think being single and a citizen from a third world country is a high risk factor for not having a visa to US.
I will probably try one more time before calling it off with the USMLE affair.

cheers

Hi bobby,

Sad to hear your story. I've been in the same boat as you. I got denied 3 times. Fortunately, on the 4th try I got the visa. Try to get sponsor letter from US doctor. I'm single and unemployed, still dependent.. so actually, I'm worse than you.

what does this sponsor letter state? that he will make sure you'd go back to your home country after the CSA? do you think this letter is what changed the mind of the consul?

Don't know for sure... who knows what in their minds unless you have some inside contacts.

I had 3 new stuff when I applied the last time, one letter from an american doc stating that he will ensure my return, one letter from my professor stating that I'm going to join his team again (which is not totally true though), and student visa from Canada and Schengen visa (both have expired); and don't forget... some prayers smiling face.

The reason why I mentioned only the first one was because the consular officer seemed only to care about the american doc's letter. She only glanced a second at my other letters besides bank statement and ECFMG letter.

GL.. and I'd be happy to answer any further questions. I know how it feels to get denied, so keep up the faith if going to america is really what you want.
