hi everyone this is my first post. but i ve been following this forum for a long time now. my exam ... this is how it went - bulk of it as u all know, was internal medicine and the topic most i was tested on was infectious disease.. and i am talking about 10 % of all my questions were from ID (including STD, post surgical infections) for IMG, do not read things like malaria, and other tropical illness, does not come out. i was also asked tularemia and babeiosis. surgery was very minimal and was the common things. nothing fancy. - Intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, diverticulitis, and loads of cancers (esophagus, dtomach, colon) o and g was also minimal and common things were asked. bulk of it, infact half was STDs paeds was also minimal. PSY - i was heavily tested on child and adolocent conditions ( retts, conduct, ADHD, ) this all constituted arunf 50% of psy anyway i m sure u all know wat is being asked and me telling wat came out for me is not going to help much. but i can share some experience i am a fresh graduate, and i just finished my finals in march. for those who are in their final year, please do not sit for USMLE immeditely after your exam. that would be suicide. u need the time to do plenty of questions. so sit for it 6 weeks later. dont leave too much of a gap, f not, u ll find your knowledge deteriorating. in my case when i sat for my USMLE, my medical knowldege was lesser than when i sat for my finals, but my test scores were higher. this is just to tell u all how important doing practise questions is i am not rich. so i had to use limited resources to study for this exam. --------- these are the books i used IM - kumar and clark psy - kaplan , first aid pediatrics - nelson essentials 3rd ed o and g - NMS , ten teachers surgery - NMS since i sat for my USMLE soon after my finals, i did not need to read small concise books. i used my text books for guidlines i have blue prints the whole series, but they are hopeless, do not read them NMS is hard and too detail.. but it is good --------------- these are the books used for practising questions pre test - these are the best. do them again and again. i bought them at the begineing of my clinical years, so it helped me guidline wat is important in the US syllabus. NMS practice test - 1000 qs, they are good mock exam - around 1000 qs , but are slighly easy blueprints q and a - 100 qs each book, good i ve bought these books over the years, so it did not put a financial strain on me, for those of u who are not rich, do so. i did not subscibe for U world. but my friend did, so i tried a few. they are good. those of u who can afford , please get them. but the qs are similar to the books i ve been doing, so it made only little difference. ---------- exam experience. - the paper was long, but not hard. they asked normal qs. but i will not do well. the reason being answers were too close. i just did not know enough to narrow down my final two answers to one final one. do not worry bout the breaks. the one hour they give u is more than enough. i took short breaks as i wanted to get over with the exam as soon as possible some blocks are hard, some were not so hard. the easier blocks i finished 10 min before time, after reviewing. once u are done, do not go over again. cuz u ll have the tendency to change ur answers, and the original answers are always correct. use ur highlighting tool. this is so when u are not concentrating, u wil find urself highlighting nonsense. then it ll be a wake up trigger once u realise that ( i m not sure if u understand wat i really am saying) i was never under pressure the whole exam. this helped. try and not get stressed if possible, but i know it s hard for those type A personalities ..haha. i never did step one. but i dun think it would have helped me much as the two xams have nothing in common. ask me if u alll need anything.. cheers, and good luck i ll post my reults once it is out. at least then u all will know if wat i did worked.

Hi converse "some blocks are hard, some were not so hard. the easier blocks i finished 10 min before time, after reviewing. once u are done, do not go over again. cuz u ll have the tendency to change ur answers, and the original answers are always correct." this words of yours remind me of my own exam. I did & felt same like you word to word. Finishing a block before time is an achivement in itself.saying this I am trying to lift my own moral. best of luck for a great score
