I think D too, nothing else makes much sense

its simple.....i guess correct me if i m wrong

its efferent arteriole which senses rise or decrease in BP....here renal artery stenosis will decrease blood flow in right kidney it and there will be high stimulation for renin release only by the right kidney and thus thts what physcian has to check.

guest007

the question asks about change that occurs after operation?

as I understand the question is a change already there before operation. I think D

guest 007 is correct ....the answer is D..
in this case since there is right renal artery stenosis, there is increased renin release on right side which causes secondary elevation of BP,the non-stenotic kidney compensates witha decreased renin prod.
so the PRA[plasma renin activity] in the renal vein tht drains the effected kidnay will b increased & the contralateral PRA is decreased..PRA is a test done 2 predict the success of surgical revascularisation.....as asked in this casesmiling face

robin....the questions asks ....what will make the physcian think that operation will help?

and if the stenosis is repaired with a stent.....than renin will automaticaly come down as will the HTN...simple....

and regarding the chioces one can choose D as even though its arteriole which will icrease the renin...the question asks us which blood vessel you will use for measuring renin......

and renal vein is used to check PRA....right!so here it will be right renal vein versus left.

Its asking BEFORE the operation.

Renin is released in response to low BP. In this case the block, causes low flow, and low pressure.

Blood pressure is monitored by the AFFERENT (not efferent) arteriole! The AA have modified smooth muscle cells (juxtaglomerular cells) that monitor BP.

These JG cells secrete renin. This renin is released in the AA, passes to the glomerulus, EA, and then finally renal vein...

SO--- Right Renal vein will have a HIGH renin...
and Left Renal vein will have a LOW renin...

Answer is D.

Hope never see a question like this one in the real exam, I do not understand what the question is about since I read it very fast in order to answer it in 1 minute.madmadmadmadmad
