A 30-year-old healthy woman is undergoing an oral glucose tolerance test. After a catheter is inserted into an arm vein, she is given a drink containing 75 g of glucose. A blood sample is taken every 20 minutes and assayed for glucose and insulin concentrations. Twenty minutes after she drinks the glucose solution, which of the following biochemical findings would be expected?
Answer Choices Correct answer Your answer
A. Fatty acids in adipose tissue are mobilized
B. Hepatic glycogen synthesis is activated
C. Hepatic glycolysis is stimulated
D. Hepatic ketone synthesis is increased
E. Kidney gluconeogenesis is stimulated

B?

Drinking glucose-->increase insulin-->B

Other choices are contrary to insulin effects

how about glycolysis? Isn't it by the effect of insulin? Please let me know?

  #4

That makes me be confused

robin, the correct answer is B

but I don't know why C is wrong??

  #6

insulin will be increased, which is an anabolic hormone and glycogen synthesis would be an anabolic process. glycolisis would be a catabolic process

But remember the major action of insulin is promoting glycolysis. Glucose uptake by the cells and glycolysis. Insulin is a strong stimulant for glycolysis enzymes.

I'm totally surprized! Is there a missing part in my understanding of..?

  #8

insulin moves glucose into cells, increases glycogen synthesis and storage, increases triglyceride synthesis and storage, increases protein synthesis. i don't know about insulin activating glycolisis.

I know I am also confused between B and C. we should wait for someone to explain this to us.

  #10

just checked, insulin activates glucokinase in the liver, so i guess technically B and C could be correct, maybe they're looking for what the main result would be

a friend says after glucose ingestion we have glycogen synthesis in LIVER.

but I think glycolysis in fat tissues and skeletal muscles? Right? What do you think?

I go with this concept
