Hello every one!
Thank you in advance for your help.
I am in a unique situation. I am about to take my STEP 1 in four weeks and I am confident that I will be successful given my NBME and Kaplan scores. I plan to take STEP 2 in early 2007 and CS in middle 2007. My question is should I speed things up and take STEP 2 as early as possible and CS quickly and go for the 2007 match

OR

take my time with STEP (take it in early 2007 as planned) and take CS in mid 2007 and try to do some research and/or observership in 2007 and then go for the 2008 match?

My concern is that if I wait for almost a year after passing STEPS to apply for residency, programs may view this negatively. Further, i am not even sure if I can get a research or observership.

As for my backgroud, I am foreign medical graduate (April2004), hold a green card and no family circumstances forcing me to start residency early.

I sincerely appreicate your feedback and help.

Regards,
IK

I am not sure what the "???????PLEASE" means but here is the response from some one intelligent on the Kaplan baord regarding the same question:

"This is not an easy question to answer. But if you are confident of doing well on Step 1, given that many IMGs need less total prep time to do fine on Step 2CK, this does open up the possibility of trying for the 2007 match, if you can secure a CS appointment soon (you can set it later, but get an appointment scheduled now as slots fill up quickly. If you find that you are able to take Step 2CK in the early fall with good prediction of success, then even if you ultimately decide not to go for it, you would be free to really pursue either research or clinical experience here, and if LORs resulted from that, all the better to strengthen your chances. You are right to be somewhat concerned, however, about the years since medical school factor, as some programs do prefer more recent graduates. It's hard to give you a definitive answer as we don't yet know what any of your USMLE scores will be. If they turn out to both be strong, then you might get interest from programs even without the US clinical. Why not get Step 1 taken, begin preparing for Step 2CK and see how it goes. "

Good luck raves.

After reading their answer, what is your decision gtd068a? 2007 or 2008?
