A 55 year old man sustains numerous injuries involving the abdomen and lower extremities.During the intra- and postoperative periods, he is resuscitated with 10 L of Ringer's lactate & 8 units of packed RBCs. After initial improvement, he has sever dyspnea on the second postoperative day. The most useful initial diagnostic test is which of the following?

a)ECG
b)ABG
c)insertion of a central venous line
d)ventilation-perfusion scan
d)CT scan of abdomen

this is abdominal compartment syndrome.

ABG's or CT scan ? but as an initial test i'll go for ABG's.

IT CAN BE PULMONARY EMBOLISM AS WELL.ANYWAYS ABG IS RIGHT

yup ...could be PE especially if the patient also complaints of chest pain also...

but this patient has been given a lot of fluids and so the most likely d/d should be abdominal compartment syndrome.
