I am a really new beginner of step1 and I wanna take the exam the summer or fall of 2007. I am a IMG graduated 6 years ago from China. I am pursuiting my PhD at Vanderbilt Univ Medical Center now. When I open the FA Step1, I found there are lots of terms I don't even know, so I need some advice from IMGs. Should I go over some text book first? Anyway, I am wondering where I should begin. thanks!!

the place to start is to read the various forum where you will find the experience of others and the texts they recommend. you can then make an educated judgement on what texts are required. this will also help you get a feel of the exam and what is required. if you are planning for 2007, you do have a lot of time. it si not usually advised to spend more than 6-9months preparing cos yu will tend to give a wishy-washy preparation which will not help at all. i recomment the following link http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/30882. he answered a whole bunch of questions there.
