u have a wonderful chance to do psychi in usa at a superb program. its not at all competitive and ur scores are good enuf. all they want is interest in field - even ppl with multiple tries get in.. whether or not to complete ur uk training is upto u.. us is more a mirage of a bed of roses. ru ready to slog for 5more yrs - i.e 2 of ur current training and ur 3 more yrs in usa? no doubt in the end u will be paid a good amount as all us docs are.. if i were u - if i decided to come to usa - i wud try for neuro-psych or im-psych combo progs if u have the interest. since u already know the psych - it will be more stimulating. plus u get board certified in 2 fields and can earn more. downside is that most these combo progs are 5yr long..
its ur call. i wud come earlier. as ur usa training can also count towards getting a mrcpsych..

I would look at my visa status if i were you,if ur likely to get UK passport by the end of ur SpR job then u will get a consultant post pretty soon,and thats good aint it? and Uk still needs lots of consultant psychiatrists.
On the other hand u have already done ur steps and halfway thru!!!and added upon to mrcppsych ur md will look good on ur cv doesnt it?
On the other hand if ur on PFT and would like to come to USA,despite you being an old IMG you probably will do well since psychiatry is not as competetive to get in.
I have heard that j1 waivers on psych are difficult however am not sure,try and come on H1B visa if ur applying for psych if wanna avoid all these problems
You shud have no problems even considering ur score.(are good for psych applicants),yes as you only have mentioned you need to look at the pros and cons think over talk to your family and friends.

think my mind is made up. i'll try and match next year.
time to dust off my step 3 books then (or buy some...)
any tips for step 3 and IMG friendly psyche programs??? (pls bear in mind my credentials as above)
