Gram positive org. have thick cell wall which is composed of teichoic acids and muramic acid. gram negative org. have thin cell wall which is composed of lipopolysaccharides in their outer membrane. They have periplasmic space.

Also, the peptidoglycan in gram positive is real thick and between the cell wall and cell membrane. In gram neg, it is very thin.

Thx to both of you. As you say asmi I d say the key word is that the gram negative has the "outer membrane" which is composed of a hydrophobic phospholipid bilayer, with 2 different proteins, and a periplasmic space.
