Thanks A, busy_mom, acemle, and infliximab for your kind words. Busy_mom: yes, it was a great way to end a week, actually 3 weeks of waiting. Yes I will enjoy some time off with my family and then arrange for a clinical observership to get ready for the NZREX (the equivalent of CS here in New Zealand). Read your after-exam post. Very inspiring - I am a Mum of 2 young boys too and I know how difficult it can be to juggle studies and family committments. I am sure you did fine and we look forward to hearing about a good outcome for you in 3 weeks' time. Infliximab: Goodluck with your exam. Wishing you a 'feeling of calmness and confidence, a clear mind and a 100% recall'. You will be fine. Thanks again everyone. I will write about my exam prep and practice scores for correlation purposes when I get my score next week.

It's been a week since my OASIS details were updated but my score report still has not arrived in the mail. I wonder if this is because I am outside the US or because of the sheer volume of examinees (American med students usually take USMLE at this time). Anyone outside the US in the same boat? It is getting a bit frustrating.

Thanks seri for your words of support. The waiting can be hard, but hey, I waited for 3 weeks for the update, I should be able to wait a few more days eh? Thanks again and all the best to you.

Hello Sachida...thank you. It's the Queen's Birthday weekend where I am, so the postal service won't be back till Tuesday next week. If nothing happens by then I will call the ECFMG and ask them to resend my score report. I wish you goodluck with yours. Thanks again.

Finally got the score in the mail a few days ago - 1 day shy of 6 weeks since my exam date. Had to call ECFMG and fax them a request for a duplicate copy. Anyway, got 223/90. Happy and content with that - just so RELIEVED that me and my family don't need to go through all that stress again!!! My serious prep lasted 3.5 months. Used Blueprints for IM, Paeds, O/G, High Yield for Psych, Boards and Wards, and USMLE Step 2 Secrets, Only used UW for MCQ practice and NBME for self-assessment. Dabbled a little with NMS and Kaplan Q book but UW was the main source. My practice scores for correlation are as follows: NBME 2 - 510 (4 weeks before the exam) NBME 3 - 440 (2 weeks before the exam) UW - 61% USMLE CD; 42, 40, 41 So grateful to my husband, my two young boys, my parents and parents in law for their awesome support. Also to the members of this forum who wrote about their exam prep/experiences - learned a lot from you all. Thank you. Wishing everyone all the best on the road to residency in the US! I am contented to stay 'Down Under' in New Zealand. Ka kete everyone (means 'Bless you' in Maori). A special word to all the Moms with young ones and older grads out there...if I can do it so can you!! I am an 'ancient' graduate (1990) and I have two young boys aged 2 and 4 (older one turns 5 this weekend, the younger one turns 3 next month).

Hi infliximab...good question. The reason is that I am seeking medical registration here in NZ. USMLE steps 1 and step 2 CK plus the IELTS are the prerequisite exams an IMG needs to pass before he/she can apply for the NZREX (the NZ equivalent of step 2 CS). And then once NZREX is passed an IMG can then apply for registration and start working as a junior doctor and work his/her way up from there. Why the NZ Medical Council uses the USMLE for this purpose I have no idea!! How I wish they can do what they Aussies and come up with their own exams and provide bridging courses or review centres. There's none of those out here...one is totally on his/her own while tackling the USMLE. So you can understand the RELIEF I feel for myself and my whole family that I have cleared these two exams. But then, who knows...I might decide to go for a fellowship there someday...a pass in these exams will be handy. When are you taking your exams? It is sometime this month isn't it? All the best of luck to you infliximab!

Hi! All I'm a new entry to this forum. I've been visiting this forum all this time, and it helped me get an insight into the USMLE scoring system. I've just given my USMLE Step 2 CK yesterday (June 16, 2006), and am skeptical about the results. I'm confident about 70 per cent of the questions I've answered (maybe 75; I want to keep a low limit!). Since the time the examination has finished, I've not been able to take it easy, as I'm too apprehensive about the scores I will eventually get. I have worked day in - day out for this examination, and still could not answer all the questions on the examination. What percentage of questions answered correctly will ensure a 90 percentile on the examination? I hope it isn't all the questions, or perhaps a higher percentage of the questions! Please guide myself through this. The examination had a total of 368 questions; I have successfully recalled 65 per cent questions I had doubted myself on, and have incorrectly replied 11 of those 65 per cent questions (I'm still searching answers for some!). How many questions have to be answered correctly, out of 368 to get a 90 percentile (and how many correct questions are required to pass the examination?). Please help me through this people! I hope I get a good percentile. I've worked arduously for this examination. Also explain how do they score us on USMLE. Please help! I subsequently will sit for Step 1 in September this year (hopefully). I've taken a few days' break in between. I want to reassure myself, and unwind successfully, before I begin work for Step 1. Thanks all... In anticipation of your reassuring answers. PS: What is "OASIS Trick"? How quickly can we access our scores? Is there any sstem in place that gives the correct answers?

Hi ankurkarla: I am not sure I am the right person you should ask, as Statistics has never been my favorite subjects. But as I understand it, you have to answer 60-70% of the questions right to pass...which is equivalent to a 75 on the 2-digit scale. Logically if you want a 90, it should be somewhere in the upper 80% or maybe 90+% correct, or upper 30s per 46 qs. Just my understanding. I might be wrong...hope anybody who's good at figures can answer. Maybe p53? As to the OASIS trick, you do it on the 3rd or 4th Wednesday after your exam date. Any time before that timeframe would be too early. Make sure you have a score report date in your OASIS details or the trick will not work. Goodluck! And try to relax a bit and enjoy just having finished the exam! I am sure you did fine.

Dearest maylea Thank you so much for all the information. Can you kindly ask someone else to give an accurate answer to my query. The documented incorrect answers are 14, as of now, and still counting! I've been successfully able to recall more than 50 questions (the ones I've been able to recall, hopefully, must have been the ones I spent more time on, thinking), and of those, 14 are documented wrong! Just help myself with my apprehensions maylea. I will be grateful. If you say upper 30s out of 46 in each block for a 90, then that is reassuring, it really is! I think I've pulled off at least 30 correct answers in each block (I'm hopeful!). All I know is, I worked really hard for the examination! Please help! Thanks a lot Ankur PS: What is the URL for accessing the OASIS trick?

Thank you A. Got your PM- sent you one back. Goodluck with the observership and your CS next month. Liam's 5th BD was yesterday 18 June but his party was on Saturday. He had a ball! Belated Happy BD to your little one too!! Our 'Queen' is the Queen of England, NZ still being part of the British Commonwealth of Nations like Canada, and India for that matter.
