Hello,
I am a IMG from india and finished Step 2 and taking CS this month and Step 1 by july end. I have a Green Card. Can i apply for ECFMG certificate now without all the steps or i have to wait till i take all the steps? how long will the application process take and do i need to have the certificate when i apply for residency? is there a time limit i need to have the certificate, i want to start the residency next june.
Please someone let me know how ECFMG certificate works.

you cannot apply for an ECFMG certificate till you have the scores for all the 3 exams- step 1, step 2 ck and step 2 cs.
one has to be ECFMG certified to be eligible for the match. so it's preferable to be certified before Dec. (bbb, please correct me if i'm wrong.)
However, it would be advisable to get your certificate as early as possible to get a better chance of being called for interviews.
ECFMG certification may require between 2- 4 weeks after you have the score for all the exams.
All the best 4 the cs and step 1.
Do share with us ur exam experince, score and study technique for step 2 ck.

Correct - you need to be ECFMG certified to be in the match. The cut date was in February this year. You don't need it physicially in your hand, just be eligible for it.

hi all,
what is the latest i can take step 3 to be eligible for HIB visa?
if i take cs in nov-dec after completing all my other steps will there be enough time for results to come and then complete of ecfmg certification and step 3 exam before the match.
i'd appreciate any inputs on this. rather worried about this.

hello everyone,
Can you please clarify? Is Step 2 CS needed before an IMG can apply for residencies through ERAS (let's say in September 2006) ? Or one just needs to have it by February 2007? If an IMG applies without having taken the CS yet, will this reduce chances for an interview?

One can apply even with the scores of a single step... BUT...
It's always better to apply with as many score reports as possible. However, do not hurry at the expense of good scores. Try and finish things as early as practically possible. But yes, all the three steps have to be finished and done with before Feb. so that the scores are available and ECFMG certification is done before the Match day.

i have another question about ECFMG certificate...
im a carrib student and lets say i apply to SFMatch. the CAS application requires to have an ECFMG certificate. i cannot get this b/c you only get this after u take step 2 and graduate. i have already taken step 1. the CAS application does allow you to say a note to the program director if you dont have the ECFMG certificate.
can i apply for the SFMatch w/o the certificate? if i dont have it, am i frowned upong b/c technically i am missing a document?
someone please comment!!
