hi frnds,

plz tell me if its said that the physician is responsible for chil'd rx and should treat even though the gaurdian disagrees.so why is it that u r not supposed to write a prescription to a 16 yrs gal if the mother refuses.

plz explain.i'll be very thankful for ur time

TREATMENT OF MINORS (people under age of 18)

1.Only the parent or legal guardian can give consent for surgical or medical treatment of a minor.
2.Parental consent is not required in the following situations
a. emergency situation (when delay in treatment can be potentially harmful)
b. treatment of sexually transmitted disease
c. prescription of contraceptives
d. medical care during pregnancy
e. teratment of drug and alcohol dependence
3.A court order can be obtained from a judge if a child has a life-threatening illness or accident and parents refuse to consent to an establishes medical procedure for religious or other reasons.

also in the 2nd point we can include receiving prenatal care and outpatient mental heath services(seen in exp. of an mcq in Q book)
