i am planning to apply in may. lets say approval by ecfmg is within 2 months.and i will pick aug-sept-oct. what if i want to extend it for the next thhree months if i do not feel ready? would they let me do so ? if yes, can i pick oct-nov-dec ? thanks for replies i will apreciate a lot

u can apply for aug, sept, oct, but if u need to extend u have to pay 50 dollars and then ur block becomes nov, dec, jan

of course you can extend to the next elegibility period they charge u with 50 dollars (nothing) You have to fill the 176 form. http://www.ecfmg.org/usmle/form176.pdf They allow us to make a one-time extension. You may request an extension of your eligivility period only after your eligivility period has begun. Requests received at ECFMG more than 25 days after the end of the original eligibility period will not be processed. If you have a scheduled appointment during your original eligibility period and need to cancel and reschedule the appointment for your extended eligibility period, you must cancel or reschedule at least five business days before your scheduled appointment to avoid a rescheduling fee. Requesting an extension of your eligibility period does not cancel a scheduled testing appointment you have to cancel also the appointment. Hope this helps, the info is from the ECFMG booklet.

thank you spiitmetal and mavis, i was curious, in case i extended the next 3 months nov-dec-jan, that i have to reapply from 2007 booklet. I got it.
