Which is the first enzyme to appear in acute pancreatitis?
A. lipase
B.amylase
c.AST
D.ALT

though lipase is a more specific marker, amylase appears earlier

not lipase. amylase yes.

I disagree-pages 189 and 190 of [BRS Physio] state that
alpha amylase and lingual lipse are used in initial digestion!! :roll:

yes, amylase,lipase and kellikrein found in saliva also.

In acute pancreatitis serum lipase rises after 72 hrs ,whereas amylase appears just after 1 day

Thank you- and while we are at it I see that aldostrerone also works at the ducts in much the same way it does in renal tubules.

Thats why u find elevated amylase in mumps parotitis.

u ll also find elevated amylase in perforated bowel, ectopic preg, CRF etc... just a reminder.
