27. A 27-year-old man with type 1 diabetes mellitus is brought to the emergency department because of stupor and diabetic ketoacidosis. His diabetes is usually well controlled. His wife says he has had a fever and productive cough for several days and has been taking an over-the-counter cough syrup. Which of the following is the most likely cause of the ketoacidosis?   In patient with diabetes, type 1 or 2, the need of insulin increases when having stress (infection, operation, excercise....)

Thanks for the explanation. agree. What about failure to take insulin? What would that cause... HYPERglycemia... and....?

Infection is the MCC for DKA than failure to take insulin
