7. A 27-year-old woman has a 1-week history of increased urinary frequency, dysuria, and intermittent suprapubic pain that have become worse over the past 3 days. Examination of her urine is most likely to show

E. coli is found in the human intestine. It can readily infect the bladder in females. EC is the most common cause of UTI. S. saprophyticus, which is one of the coagulase negative Staphylococci, is catalase positive. We run a novobiocin disc to differentiate this bug from other strains of CNS. Staph. sapro is NB resistant. It is a cause of UTI in women of child bearing age. To be honest, we don't see it all that often. EC is MUCH more common.

Yes bachtitech, I need you. No one else is as profound as you or would even attempt this meticulous lab differential and would give an idea of the "odds ratio" which is kind of a big deal in this arena. Thank you
