Hi Freinds, I am a mom...and have just started with my prep for Step1. One thing that always keeps on distracting me is the thought that all my efforts are going to go waste. Even if I do pass these exams I will never get a residency position owing to the fact that I have been totally out of medicine for 10 years. Freinds..give me a genuine advice...do I have any chance left or is my career already dead.

Be +VE,yes it will be difficult but nothing is impossible,it all depends on so many factors. Do you need Visa? What have you been doing since graduation? What will your scores be like in steps? Ru restricted to apply within a region for your steps? ru willing to spend some time doing observership or externship etc etc..... but i have personally seen and spoken to people in their 40's starting residency in IM in usa though most of them r in community programmes.

Dear old-grad: I'm in mid-process to get my residency, and I'm married. My wife is a doctor too, and she decided to take care of our child for now, with the hope to retake the career later. As you can see, a similar issue approaches us. Several people in this post are also in similar situation and entered a program, showing me that it is possible, must be well planned with tons of effort but still possible. So I'm asking you to please don't give up hope and show us that the fact of being a mother is not enough to give up your whole career. All the best!!

Hi Hamidi, Congrats on your success. You have boosted my morale. Did you get residency in the same hospital where you did your observership? May I know the name of the hospitals who have no cut off for grad. year
