alright people.... i took my exam last week and then promptly got sick on friday .... got to thank a fellow step 1 student who reminded me to do this... so i'm going to answer his/her questions.... let's see now... i started seriously studying third week of january. i studied before then but only for a few hours per day. books: behavioural science - kaplan epi - kaplan and other online sources anatomy - kaplan and online (brs in the beginning and then stopped) neuroanatomy - kaplan and online molecular biology, cellular biology, histo - kaplan and online sources genetics - kaplan biochemistry - kaplan and brs physiology - kaplan microbiology - brs pharmacology - lippincott's and kaplan pathology - goljan audio, review book and online sources (webpath, pathguy, etc) I studied at borders for a few weeks so that i knew i could exist with other humans, otherwise i was going crazy by myself... there is a pathophysiology book by lippincott that was really good for me to read through... it put the signs and symptoms together ... i felt that was the best. Kaplan Qbank for a month. i studied first and then went through the questions. NBME exam 1(beg march- 570-- got to say that i had taken this exam once before several months ago so ... got to factor that in..) and 2 (beg april- 460) I'm not really sure about kaplan dvd's.... i don't have them myself... and i think they have some updated/new ones... Kaplan Q book, and I bought the 2006 First Aid as well. I had blackwell clinical vignettes as well. My scores were between 65% and 72% on most exams... some were really tought some were easy. very different from nbme exams a lot of people say nbme scores are predictable of your actual exam. we'll see. i also went through the cd that they send us when we sign up.. i had atleast 3-4 questions directly from the cd!! The type of questions...: they weren't like nbme ... they were a bit more clinical than i was used to but i was glad that i read through the system based 2006 first aid!! I'm not really sure.... how else to explain it... one of the questions asked about a pt who had x disease and was treated by a drug. now he is given drug b to treat y symptom and they ask what electrolytes should be monitored??... i had to think about this one a lot before i figured it out. for those of you who already think clinically this way, it won't be bad... for me though it was a struggle. there were a few drug interactions ... a few micro questions : straightforward. very few behavioural science or epi... i am good with molecular biology, etc but i had only a 3-4 questions in that area. ... i'll continue....

i wish i would have studied the way i did in feb and march from the beginning... anyway, i was studying at night times and getting up later in the day and then the last few days i tried to change back to sleeping at night.. didn't work too well. i was sooo tired ... and i was sooo nervous that i didn't sleep at all..... so i as tired on the day of the exam.. i definitely recommend that you get a good night's rest... please don't make the mistake that i made!! i mostly had path/physio/ micro combo... with pharm thrown in... the questions were more like the kaplan Q bank... I recommend that you do the CD that they send us... had 3-4 questions from there... I had a lot of images... drawn and CTs... the drawn ones were had to understand... CTs were mostly abdominal sections.. so make sure how these look like especially in diseased conditions...

hi , spitmetal, WHat elmerphud meant by 'drawn' was --actually 'drawings' of images and CT scans not the actual CT scan itself but a drawing of it, and maybe drawings of other images as well. Hope you got it
