Pt. Diagnosed with dysthymia what is the best treatment :<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

-Psychotherapy

-Fluoxetine

-Imipramine

  #2

psychotherapy first, then if no effect- antidepressant

  #3

The given answer is fluoxetine. Well it is not a reliable answer sheet, I agree with Rasul.

  #4

i actually went for fluoxetine in this patient(maybe luckily). SSRI's are the first line antidepressants and dysthymia must be treated as aggresively as major depression.

but interpersonal therapy and cognitive therapy are also very good treatment options !! now whatsmiling face....

is not starting with a drug straight away disadvantageous/harmful to the patient ?? pls give your inputs on this.

Just checked- current guidelines for treatment-fluoxetine + psychotherapy.Used to be- psychotherapy first.
Dear determine!Don't trust my answers too much- I'm just like you, guys, trying to learn smth new...

  #6

in TN, it says principle treatment is psychotherapy too, well who knows they will accept which one as an answer...

  #7

In MCC, it is psychotherapy.

also dysmthmia needs more tender loving care, long-term low level depression is more a neurotic life-long low-level depression, I think psychotherapy is better for MCC
