yes

yes it's B

in Africa the classic presentation of an G6PD deficiency is a child who eats a meal of beans(Vicia fava) and several hours later develops Hb -uria and peripheral vascular collapse secondary to intravascular hemolysis as a result of oxidant injury initiated by the fava beans. the episode ussualy resolves spontaneously several days later.

In developed countries it's answer D.

I am really confused myself, krsna. the question was from qbank and the given answer is B with this explication.

I was looking on the internet and it seems that fava beans is not planted in africa , but in the Mediterranean zone. That means that the correct answer is indeed D.

I really am sorry for confusing people and if somebody knows more about this matter please share.

robbins also says fava bean consumption is also more predominant in meditarrenean, middle east and parts of africa but it doesn't say which is the more common presentation. i think this is one of those unfair qbank questions that i sometimes see.

thats kind of an interesting, slick q-vallia:

underdeveloped country -no meat for child, beans .

developed country-{not written in stone} but able to travel and afford antimalarial drugs.

also in Africa sickle cell disease may protect against some forms of malaria-so how much are antimalarials actually given in Africa.?{but Im not saying they are not given}

good discussion guys and gals
