I'm about to start step 1 prep. I'll be studying part time in the evenings for about 8 months, more closer to the exam. What do you think about my resources: Pathology: BRS, robbins review, big robbins for reference Physiology BRS physiology (2006 edition when it comes out) Anatomy: High yield neuroanatomy, histology, and embryology (2006 when published) + road map anatomy Pharmacology: Katzung BRS review Biochemistry: Lippincotts illustrated review Micro/immuno: micro made easy + levinson board review (2006 when published) Behavioral: BRS I've also got kaplan notes (2002) for everything apart from pharmacology - how shall I use them with these resources? thanks for your help

Pathology: 'BRS Pathology', 2005, 'Robbins & Cotran Review of Pathology', by Klatt, 2nd ed. 2004, 432p. ISBN: 0721601944; also can try 'Robbins & Cotran Atlas of Pathology', by Klatt, 2006 (not yet released), 512p. ISBN: 141600274X Physiology: 'Physiology', by Costanzo, 3rd ed. 2006, ISBN: 1416023208 Anatomy: 'High yield neuroanatomy', 2004, 'High yield embryology', 2006, 'USMLE road map gross anatomy', 2005, 'Wheater’s Functional Histology', 2006, ISBN: 044306850X Pharmacology: Katzung isn't the author of 'BRS Pharmacology' (which is bad); there are 2 books by Katzung & Trevor: 'Katzung and Trevor’s Pharmacology: Examination and Board Review', 7th ed. 2004, 640p. & 'USMLE Road Map: Pharmacology', 2nd ed. 2005, 178p. Biochemistry: 'Lippincotts illustrated reviews: Biochemistry', 2004 Micro/immuno: 'Review of Medical Microbiology & Immunology', by Levinson, 2006 Behavioral: 'BRS Behavioral', 2004 + 'Kaplan LNs' for everything except for pathology (because it's bad) and for Pharmacology (because you don't have it and because 'USMLE Road Map: Pharmacology' readily compensates for this) also see http://www.prep4usmle.com/resources/29

yea sorry I didnt mean BRS pharmacology - i meant katzung and trevor's examination and board review, as i already have it. Do you recommend buying the roadmap too? How does the structure of roadmap compare to the review? is it based on the larger text, or a totally different book? The chapters are well organised I think in the larger text and grouped well. Are the chapters in the roadmap similar?

when you are close to the exam there is little time to review - at the same time pharmacology has the magic tendency to be forgotten just in a few days - 'Katzung and Trevor’s Pharmacology: Examination and Board Review' is too much for the quick review just before the exam - you'll need more condensed and concise version of this book - and they have created it for you - it's 'USMLE Road Map: Pharmacology'. alternatively, you can get 'Lippincotts’s Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology', by Howland, 3rd ed. 2005, 559p. ISBN: 0781741181, istead of 'USMLE Road Map: Pharmacology', to compensate for 'Kaplan LN: Pharmacology', and can use only 'First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 2006', by Bhushan, just before the exam to refresh your memory for pharmacology, as well as for other subjects.
