what is the difference between spasticity and rigidity??

  #2

spasticity- results from an UMN lesion..there is resistance to any passive movements at the begining of the movement which then later gives way to more easy movement

rigidity- there is resisatnce to passive movement throughout the motion...

so can UMN lesion gives rise to rigidity also???

  #5

"spasticity is due to lack of inhibition of gamma motor neuron while rigidity is due to lack of inhibition of alpha motor neuron"

i read this somewhere, is it correct??

also i think "Spasticity" is a Pyramidal lesion whereas "Rigidity" is an Extra-pyramidal lesion (Parkinson)

is that rigth?
