Epidural: you can use this technic wherever, I use it at cervical level (to treat pain), but is most frequent to use it at lumbar level, the landmark is the Iliac Crest at L4L5, the aproach by the sacral hiatus is epidural too but is a variant, useful in pediatrc patients to treat hernias or phimosis or undescend testes
SPINAL it has a similar but not the same effects, the main difference is tha anatomic landmark is wherever too but you have to pierced the duramater beyond this you are in the spinal space, CSF is your confirmatory sign, is very fast onset, low doses, more density solution (Lidocaine 5%) and safety, but it has a higher incidence of headaches
BOTH can cause a severe hipotention if you dont give 10 ml per kg of Saline Solution previously
Signs of intoxication: taste Changes, EKG changes
