A 30-year-old menstruating woman presents at the Emergency Department with a high fever, vomiting and diarrhea of 24 hours' duration. Her blood pressure is 90/50 mm Hg and there is a diffuse erythematous rash. All of the following laboratory results are in keeping with a diagnosis of toxic shock syndrome, EXCEPT 1) creatine kinase 290 U/L. 2) calcium (total) 1.66 mmol/L. 3) white blood cell count 18 x 109/L. 4) aspartate aminotransferase 100 U/L. 5) glucose 2.2 mmol/L.

I just took the exam And toxic shock syndrome is also found in packed cotton in the nose, any packed cotton in the body can cause toxic shock syndrome The question I saw in the exam was a patient was bleeding posteriorly and the doc packed the nose and then the pt developed fever, hypotension and toxic shock syndrome
