manitol may be used in acute tubular necrosis (Furosemide is more preferable), that is my clinical experience. FA may be wrong.

Mannitol is an osmotic diuretic and it can precipitate or worsen renal failure ( if given during times of prerenal azotemia), so even in patients of cerebral oedema , when mannitol is given it is given only after prior administration of furosemide.
