FA says that mannitol is CI in anuria....can any one pl explain why?

while kaplan says that it is used in preventing anuria in rhabdomyolysis.......arent both the contradictory statements?

thanks

manitol may be used in acute tubular necrosis (Furosemide is more preferable), that is my clinical experience.

FA may be wrong.

Mannitol is an osmotic diuretic and it can precipitate or worsen renal failure ( if given during times of prerenal azotemia), so even in patients of cerebral oedema , when mannitol is given it is given only after prior administration of furosemide.
