10. A 45-year-old man who has five children comes to the physician to discuss a vasectomy and asks about what to expect. Which of the following is most likely to occur during the first 4 weeks following the procedure?

A) Atrophy of the testes

B) Erectile disorder

C) Numbness of the posterior scrotum

D) Presence of viable sperm in ejaculate

E) Significantly decreased volume of ejaculate

D?
If not, my second choice would be C.

Explanation?

I guess there could still be some viable sperm left over in the ducts.

Whats the lifetime of a sperm cell?

Now I'm confused on this again... Everyone says its D. and I thought so too, but sperm only live a couple of days... so how can there be viable sperm in the ejaculate???

Fertility may still occur 90 days after vasectomy, that I learned when did my clerkship.

a vasectomised male ejaculates viable sperm for a period of 6 to 8 weeks or upto 30 ejaculates.

hope this helps

a vesectomized male has sperms still in the portion of his ducts distal to the location of vasectomy...
those sperms remain viable..
and sperm viability is 1-2 days OUTSIDE the body ...not inside the body...
if you remember, mature sperms stay in the vas deferens for quite some time...almost 4 weeks...
look it up.. I hope it will help smiling face
