I read somewhere, may be it was Kaplan's USMLE newsletter that students often feel depressed while preparing for such a stressful exam b/c pple burn out, doubt themselves, anxiety rises the closer the exam, and etc. So they recommend to be ready for that since the volume of material to study is so overwhelming and the stakes are high. Their advice was - do something for yourself, make sure to get enough sleep, exercise and eat well. (sorry, not a new suggestion, right?) Of course I am just starting and haven't felt the pressure you are feeling with the exam coming up soon. When I do feel depressed occasionally, I rent some good drama-type movie to watch and it takes me even more down in feeling but it is no more whatever I had stressed out about. My mind is distracted away from my problems. I go to sleep and next morning rebounce with a new energy. Hope you feel better soon. Olma.

Hi star1, How many times did you do Qbank? How many percent did you score? Did you do other sources of qs? score of NBME?

Hey Star1, I know exactly how you feel. I've felt depressed and disheartened myself during my preps. The thing that help a lot for me is exercise. I started going jogging regularly and always noticed an elevation in mood because of it. It's not a new idea, but you shoulld pay some heed to it because it works.

Star1 I felt depressed also, I was missing my son, my wife and family cause I took a long trip to take the test... but, remember this is the last month, soon it will be over. Dont get discouraged by stressfull feelings, get up and give your best. So the when the day arrives you have a feeling that you gave your best and you couldnt have done this any better, relax my friend. Put your heart in this. And GOD and your brain will do the rest..

Hi, There are a lot of guys who share the same problems with you, me too, before my step 1 exam, i even forgot the code of my bank card, and felt confused. But exercise, swimming, going to the movies helped me alot to overcome these confusions. So you will find your own method to relax.

I think for IMG who passed faculty of medicine, especially in the 3rd world, can consider this test as a trip not more. How many times did you stuck with a professor in your medical school during oral exams? Many, but everything passed and depression also passed. It is only one step to what you are preparing for, you must fight and, sorry, "kill yourself" for your targets. Never give up.......... it is your time. Best luck and may Allah bless you.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Well thanks you all very much. 2006?Maybe... Hi The good point that I get from your message is to have good night sleep. And I will definitely do it. Before I study all the night and go to bed at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />4 am and then wake up at 10, sometime 11 am . Now I will change it to night sleep and study in the day . I hope it will work better for me. robin082006 Hi, After my 2 reading I took Kaplan simulated cd test in time mode which was my fault because I did not read the Q banks. And I finish each block in 30 or sometime in 25 minute and GOT overall 57%. It is low score but I know it was because I took it early and second finish each block in just half an hour, but it help me really good in picking up my weak areas . in this test I was good in mirco and patho got about 95 and 93 respectively and my worse subject was behavioral science and statistic in which I got just 30%. Now I am concentrating on my weak areas and have finished Q bank just once and now will start 2 reading. Beside that I havnt taken NBME . I have BSS, NMS, IV Q bank, Allert CDs and I am intented to atleast cover then especially BSS which I have half covered. For Pharma I will also read the Pretest book Also have to read the Goljan 100 pages, tommy High Yield concept. AND OFCOURSE I WILL READ THE FA DrPak THANKS for your advise. I noticed that I have gain some pound weight and u very well pointed that exercise is the best solution. Just to tell you true today morning I have walked for about a 30 minute and now feeling good. Its good that to keep spirit high we need regular exercise. HIGH SPIRIT= REGULAR EXERCISE …………. Positive reinforcement …………………………..wink mazinger Hi to your reply I will just say this sentence, “ TO GAIN SOMETHING , SOMETHING HAS TO BE LOSED “ ANYWAY thanks for your reply and encouragement phuluong2k Hi thanks for your suggestions dr_neonatology Hi, Thank you very much for your kind encouragement.

Star1, The change of a sleep pattern for a more natural one should definitely help. I also want to second Dr.Pak that execise helps. I've been exercising 3-4 times /wk since the end of Jan. and lost 10 lbs. But the main benefit as I see it that my mood is balanced, energy went up and the head is clear. Good luck. Olma.
