Hi everyone, I 've been reading this forum for awhile and found it very informative and pple here are very supportive and I am gratefull to all of you.

I got Kaplan bks, videos, FA and a few other bks and started my prep for step1. It is so hard and very slow for me as I am an old graduate, working almost full time, having household responsibilities and dealing with some health isssues too. But my hubby and I realize that I will never be happy if I don't make at least an attempt to become a physician in this country as this is what I love to do.

I do have a couple of Qs too. I have signed up on ECFMG site in order to file application and now I went to NBME site and saw they also have a link for USMLE application. Which site should I use for application?

Secondly, at what point in my studies should I sign up? I am hesitating b/c I have to prepay for the exam but what if I won't be ready when the time comes. I'd like to take step 1 by the end of the year if I can. Should I wait until I see my first good progress? How long is the longest time someone took to prepare?

confused
Thanks in advance,
Olma.

Hello

I think the best way to submit application is thru the ECFMG site.

Yes this preparation is very demanding and everyone goes thru the almost same ups and downs. But the important thing is by persiistance u can win this battle.

Go thru many exam experinces and also thru support forums and u will get a very good idea about it. I think u first u should make a good and mangable plan and see how u are doing then submit the application. Because many people submit the application and then have to extend their eligibility period and then under pressure give the exam and cannot get the result what they wanted. So please first give yourself good amount of time to prepare for this exam. Because anyone who has prepared well can ace this exam.

I hope this can help and GOOD LUCK.

yes, you can do the whole application process thru the ecfmg website. and yes also go thru past exam experiences even the old ones to know what the usual prep time and resources most people use. it varies but you should make out a plan and a timetable. decide whether you need a significant amount of time to prepare and try and stick to it. best of luck

Hi OBO,
I am kind of thinking in lines of your suggestions too. I am going to study for a month and then see where I stand and finalize my plan. I even put a picture of Great Canyons titled persistence on my desk. Thank you.

HI, General Malaise,
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I did work on my plan in more detail last night and I am going to post it later in a support forum or may be even start a diary with that. Please watch out for the post and give me kindly your comments.

Hi, Dr_Ecv,
Thank you. What year graduate are you? I am 1995. I am thinking also 6 to 9 mns, in a few wks I'll see for sure how fast the studies progress. You are right about the first gear. Especially it is so hard for me to sit at the desk for hrs at the time.

Best of luck to you all as well and God bless.
