Hi LisaM! Congrats on your CS. I also got mine and I passed! Just wanted to clarify, so ur doing Step 2CK lecture notes and UW right? I am doing the exact same thing as u except that I havent subscribed to UW yet. I was thinking of doing Kaplan Step 3 qbank first. Anybody have an idea which of the 2 is better? Also, I am worried that I may not have time to finish reviewing for Step 3 by August so I wanted to go straight to Kaplan Step 3 books + videos. Is that a good idea? I've finished IM and some OB GYN in the Kaplan CK notes so far. Or should I read all of the CK notes? Help! I dont have much time to study per day since I am working.Only 3-4hrs/day at the most...

Thank you, Chemamr. DrMary, congratulations on clearing CS! My situation is almost the same as yours in that I too have very little time to devote to step 3 prep. I have already completed Step 3 Q book during my step 2 prep because kingsofke (who I consider my guru) said that he planned on doing them in his prep journal at the time. I have marked the questions that I got wrong and made some notes which I will review before I go for step 3. I tried to study CK notes, but felt bored and unmotivated. So I went ahead and took the 3 month subscription to UW and doing it at a pace that would shame a snail- but atleast it is on my mind! I am trying to quickly read through a topic from CK and then answer the questions in the relevant topic. So far, only done Cardiology, Hematology, Endocrinology and GI in Internal Medicine. I think I want to finish all of UW this way and then go through Step 3 notes which I feel are more helpful in preparing for CCS part of Step 3. I am also looking at early part of August. Good luck to us!

I am going to take a break from Step 3 prep for a few weeks. There are too many things on my plate right now and my health is not doing very well. If I study full time, then I think I will be able to get a decent score with 4 to 6 weeks of preparation. I am not very happy that I have to take this break, but I think this is the best option for now. Hope to be back soon.

Hi an, good to see you and to read your post. My step 3 application has been processed too. Health and family issues prevent serious studying though. I think I will take mine in August or early September. Please keep posting about your progress.

Hi an, Nisha, Thanks for your wishes and concerns. Well, the real reason I have been unable to study is that I am pregnant and the first trimester symptoms are truly overpowering. Dont we live in a world full of conflicts? We strive to prove ourselves in a "man's world" and when the female aspect of our obligations prevent us from being all that we need to be, it is simply frustrating. A totally temporary set back ofcourse. If this is going to be like my first pregnancy, all the fatigue and nausea is going to be replaced by a great sense of well being, peace and boundless energy in a few weeks. Until then, I am going to be nice to myself, take tons of rest and keep track of your progress, guys!

Thank you, Nisha, an. Good to see that one of us is taking the plunge. an, I am sure you will do exceptionally well in NBME (which you may want to take soon) and probably wont see the need to do all the other tests/ revisions because most of whats tested in step 3 is the CK stuff and your outstanding CK score (272/99) is testimony that you have mastered that stuff. Keep posting, an. Still waiting it out here....

thanks for the tip LisaM, I will take the nbme this weekend,.. so far so good..am on track..read 15 ccs cases from UW and 3 chapters from washington manual, alongwith 1 q book test, yday..hopefully by friday will be done with these 3 sources. That leaves me with doing some incorrect question blocks from UW, and reading strong medicine for next week. pip pip...happy studying and recuperating..

i just took the step 3 on sat/mon...there was a problem on day 1, the center could not open my exam file. they worked on it for over an hour before they could fix it. exam per se was ok...seem to have totally blocked out the mcq aspect(as always) did a lot of guessing, but ccs was nice...i actually enjoyed solving them. now can start working on application, etc. DrMary, it took a total of about 9-10 days for the application to be approved from my filling it online. Then, another 10 days to get the orange permit.

RESUMING PREP: I would like to think that I am resuming my step 3 prep and this time, hopefully, there wont be major interruptions. I had tried to resume studying few times in the past months, but was not able to study consistently and it depressed me. But for past two weeks, I have been making some progress and I have completed a quick revision of OBG. Now on to Peds. Hope to complete Peds UW questions in the next 4 days. I have taken September 21 and 22 as exam dates. Lets see!

Finished Neurology yesterday. Onto Infectious disease. I am able to study consistently for the past few days and made a sketchy study plan. I am reviewing the topic and working on UW questions soon afterwards. Scoring in mid 60s. I must be finsihed with IM and most of psychiatry by the 26th of August according to this plan. Then I want to focus on CCS cases and by the beginning of next month, I would like to take NBME to see where I stand. Hope that works.

Just completed ID. Scored 50%. I found the questions to be quite challenging and was ill prepared after my revision of CK Kaplan text for ID. So many questions on HIV related complications! Never heard of IRIS (immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome), PHAT (primary HIV associated thrombocytopenia) or cutanous cryptococcosis before! The skin conditions baffled me (must read up in more detail and watch pictures of Erysipelas, Ecthyma gangrenosum etc). Must also re-read all explanations from UW more thoroughly for immunization related questions- when vaccines takes effect, when and what to use for post exposure prophylaxis, proplylaxis of close contacts etc. Too tired to do anything more today. Tomorrow, I will start Endocrinology.
