Hi Guys I have restricted myself to Kaplan step2&3 materials for preparation. Kaplan and usmleworld q banks for testing. One of my seniors suggested that SWANSON is a must for passing. He told me that if you know ALL questions in Swanson , you WILL PASS. I have realised that questions per se are not representative of STEP 3 exam, but what is being asked is relavant. It is a two inch thick text, needs time. I as a resident, do have precious little time. Do you think that It is a must for passing the exam? I know most of the content in Kaplan anyway, but I still fail to answer some questions in USMLEWORLD and few in Kaplan q bank also. Will covering the SWANSON let me answer most of the questions, if not all? All those who have passed this exam, please pen a couple of lines for me. Thanks , I appreciate

Hi Suresubabu, I used Kaplan step2,UW and Kaplan Q book for the exam.I passed with 80/196. As u r a resident u will have enough clinical experience and step 3 is all abt clinical experience .I did not use swansons but heard a few topics from geriatrics is useful. Good Luck to u. Try to do NBME to know where u stand.

I think Swanson is very basic, besides that, i didn't like the book, you won't learn nothing new, that's my impression. With your materials (kaplan, UW) is enough to pass this test. I also recommend you to do NBME to self-assess you before the test.

swanson has some mistakes, dont use it. its not updated, and may be harmful to you. Instead, the gold standard is to use Kaplans step 3 and step 2 notes, and do USMLE WORLD questions and CCS cases.

Thank you guys I was under the impression that , there is some useful material in Swanson, but I was afraid of the bulk of the book, and you need to be sure of what you know while attempting a MCQ exam like step 3. Clinical experience , I have a decade in India, and then a year and half here in USA, but I am not very sure whether it helps. Many of my junior colleagues who did not have any experience anywhere, managed to pass the exam!! Anyway, as BUDLIGHT told, Goldstandard indeed is Kaplan( I allways liked and used that for step1,2,CS) and as ELMAR SAKALA of OBSTETRICS fame, puts it, (referring to Swanson) " You dont need it, these notes(Kaplan) are really outstandning........(He has authored both Swanson (O&G part) and the Kaplan..) I will try and master Kaplan, usmleworld, and then if I have time, just flip through the Geriatrics part of Swanson.......That should clinch the exam for me... Thanks once again guys, for the support
