Come on people, there is a doubt right here disapproval

i don't know the answer. I know we have 7 years to complete step 1, 2CK and 2CS. And if you don't pass them in 7 years, you may have to repeat the earliest step at least for ECFMG certification purposes. But i don't know once you are ECFMG certified, how many years do you have of validity???

confused

I think I read in the Bulletin that once you get the ECFMG certification, it doesn´t expire...you could check at ECFMG site or the bulletin.

  #7

To my understanding it never expires but if you wait too long like more then 10 years I am sure a program will have doubts as to how much you can remember specially if you don't read often.

All IMGs whos cerfificates were issued after 1993, I think will not need to renew them. There is a Sticker that you get through OASIS, once you have the certificate that says that ECFMG Certification does not expire. Of course that Silatk Says is completely right, if you have your certificate you better get into resicence ASAP.

alright, then the consensus is that ECFMG certification doesn't expire, once you get it (after 1993), it won't expire ever.

Spitmetal: you should apply to Usa but if you don't match, apply next year. As far as I know you must do all your residency in the USA (since PGY1) to have a valid license and be able to work as a specialist in USA.

well chemamr i'll certainly apply for match 2010 but if i get a recidency here in mexico and not there in us for sure im going to stay here and maybe reapply for match 2011
the thing is that im not planing to live in usa if in the future god or destiny want me to live there i will but my goal is to return to mexico
i'm just applying to usa to get a better education, to bring mexico the fresh knowledge and for making bigger my chances of getting a possition just after i finish my md degree, because i dont want to end disemployed and doing nothing and repiting el examen nacional de recidencias medicas for the third time because i know alot of people like that... sticking out tongue

and of course i have seen the pay for the PGY possitions and its amazing is like 3-4 even 5 times of what u get here in mexico, so i guess if i save all that money when i retur to mexico i'll have plenty of money to buy a house and to build a consultorio cool

alright then, if your plan is to stay in Mexico, then it's ok. You can try doing as you say.

I´m from Peru...I´m already doing my pediatric residency here in my country but I´ve always wanted to go to the U.S.. Making the decision of leaving your home is difficult, but I know U.S. can be opportunities my own country cannot...it´s not that Peru is in a very bad situation now but, you know how unstable our region is...who knows what could happen five years from now. Anyway, in the end I guess it´s just a personal choice. smiling face
