A 16-year-old girl presents to the pediatrician complaining of severe pain behind both kneecaps that began after the start of volleyball practice several weeks ago. The pain seems to worsen during activities that require knee flexion, including squatting and climbing stairs. She also reports that the pain increases in intensity when she sits with her knees flexed for a long period of time. On exam, there is tenderness and mild crepitus along the facets of each patella. Examination of her gait reveals excessive knee valgus bilaterally and the knee pain is reproduced with repetitive squatting. Based on this information, which of the following is the most effective management for this condition? A. Arthroscopic surgery B. Hard knee braces C. Quadriceps strengthening exercises D. Repetitive squatting exercises E. Steroid injections

B or C. It seems that her patella is still were it dhould be, meaning it doesn't say it's subrelaxed or smth, so maybe no need for brace. Then B is my answer. I'm not sure though.

Option C (Quadriceps strengthening exercises) is correct. This girl has patellofemoral syndrome (PFS). The treatment for PFS involves restoring muscle balance, improving range of motion, and restricting the offending physical activity. Quadriceps strengthening traditionally is performed.
