An 18-year-old woman previously in good health seeks helps at an emergency room for lightheadedness, headaches and nausea. She appears anxious and is tremulous, sweating and breathing heavily. While waiting to see a physician, she begins to complain of tingling around her mouth and in her fingers. Which one of the following would be your first management step for this patient?
