A struggling hospital that announced 300 job cuts last month is sending its administration work to India in a bid to save £2.5million a year.
New Cross Hospital, in Wolverhampton, will be sending patient information via email to halve its annual £5million medical secretary bill.
The move will start in May and see voice recordings from doctors sent over the Internet to typists.
Chief executive David Loughton said of the move, that will be tested for two months: "I have some concerns as to whether it will work or not but we have to look at it.
"It is part of trying to cut back on unnecessary waste.
"We spend £5million a year on the medical secretaries and our auditors have told us we can halve this by sending work overseas.
"We would still have personal assistants working to organise diaries but we will remove the copy typing."
Thousands of NHS jobs are being cut in the Midlands with 1,000 being axed at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, in Stoke-on -Trent.
Managers at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, that runs the Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Worcester, the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, and the Kidderminster Hospital, announced 720 job cuts.
About 300 job losses were also announced at Shropshire's two main hospitals, the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, while Mid Staffordshire General Hospitals NHS Trust revealed it planned to cut more than 150 jobs.

With more and more services being transfered to fewer and fewer hospitals,the NHS is in serious danger of toppling over.There are and always have been far too many Managers,and too few "workers".Prune from the top for a change...............
I work in the NHs and my future is far from certain.The situation is very distressing for all concerned and transfering services abroad will,in my opinion make things even worse. A few years ago the banks did a similar thing with their services,you used to ring your "branch" and found yourself speaking to Mr Patel in India...............My main concern is that of the language problem.There are people working in OUR nhs whose command of the English language is minimal to say the least..
It might be cheap but it doesn't mean the service will improve,and it's about time people realised that the nhs isn't about making a profit,it's about treating people,quickly and properly...You can't amke a profit from something that is FREE.....................
Although if things do go abroad it might be a case of "too many Indians"..............

Unfortunately that's exactly the reason OUR Health Service collapsed in the first place!

Maybe it would be cheaper then to send the whole lot to India. After all some people are choosing to have their operations there anyway, because they're frightened of getting MRSA in our dirty hospitals. How about chartering flights from Ryanair (dirt cheap) with the plane logo being NHS Direct to INDIA.

I totally agree. It would not be as bad if they could speak clearer and slower without a broad accent then you would be able you understand them.
LESSONS A PLENTY TO LEARN FROM THESE UYZ,LIF'S NOT AN EVEN PLACE TO LIVE ANYMORE.
