the fasting body can make glucose from all the following except 1. arginine 2. methionine 3. propionyacid 4. leucine 5. malate

leucine is not a glucogenic amino acid. same as lysine. the only 2 aa's that are not glucogenic.

well detailed and tedious but really relaible answer from Lehninger Principle of Biochemistry chapter 20 table 20-3: Glucogenic Amino Acid, Grouped by Site of Entry PYRUVATE: Alanine, Cysteine Glycine Serine Tryptophane(also Ketogenic) alpha-Ketoglutatate= Alanine Glutamate Glutamine Histidine Proline SUCCINYL-COA Isoleucine(also ketogenic) Methionine Threonine Valine FUMARATE: PHenylalanine(also ketogenic) Tyrosine(also ketogenic) OXALOACETATE: Asparagine Aspartate \\\\\\\\\ malate is an intermediate from pyruvate to phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) pathway and accually PEP finally via a lot reactions became Glucose-6-phosphate and glucose, so malate also belongs to glucogenesis pathway ,its difference to ,for example, alanine is that it is some steps further so the only that remains Propionyacide

Hi Danieel, Propionyl Coa is an intermediate of lipid metabolic pathway that can be used for gluconeogenesis. I saw a q asking about this.

yes, odd chain fatty acid can be used for gluconeog thro propionyl coa while even number FA are not gluconeogenic. the propionyl coa is converted to suc co a in 2 steps: prop coa to methylmalonic acid (enz prop coa carboxylase), mma to suc coa (enz meth mal coa mutase). then fumarate, malate then gluconeog pathway. pretty cumbersome. so this is not a preferred route!!
