MCC likes beastfeeding. Also most post-partum women got discharged in less than 24 hours, PPH can develop as late as 8 days post-partum. The question is how do you prevent ? prevent, prevent prevent The question did not ask you how to treat, treat, treat So breastfeeding is correct when the patient went home

Thanks Yasmeen. I also appreciate MCC to recommend grandmom approach to tackle complicated medical problems. Would I recommend breast feeding now to Mom? you bet

i dont believe what u guys are talking....come on....which book says breast feeding is a definitive way to prevent pph...it is right that question says the word prevent...but it also says most effective...breast feeding is never the most effective way....it is always iv oxytocin...iv oxytocin is routinely used to prevent pph and one more thing...pph mostly occurs just after delivery ..due to uterine atony..it is an acute process ...it can cause death ....it is not something which will start a week after mother is sent home..( it can ...rarely ...but it is an exception...not a rule ).so preventing pph AFTER MOTHER is send HOme And .....with Breast Feeding ....it is really absurd....

By elimination A is wrong because oxytocin can be a cause of postpartum hemorrhage and it is the 2nd thing to do in the management. C. is probably 3rd in management and not useful for prevention. So we´re left with b and d. Remember that postpartum hemorrhage is not a diagnosis, it has many causes, the most common being placenta accreta (wiliams ob 22nd ed). The supposed mxm of breastfeed is increased oxyotcin stimulation leading to a more contracted uterus, not helpful in placenta accreta but is in uterine atony. If the bleeding occurs after 24 hours it is deemed Late post partum hemorrage, which has other etiolgies. I go for fundal massage, it is the 1st step in management and not only that it is the most effective, and is done after every delivery (remeber you´re OB/GYN rotations). This test evaluates most commons lets not get side tracked. I am open to more solid evidence on the breastfeeding.
