Hi everyone
9th of April-I think it was high time for me to start an organised journal of my own to keep myself in check.Considering my slow speed & lack of motivation till now I have to make certain changes in my life to gear myself up for 2ck in just 2&1/2 months.
 ACCOMPLISHED TILL DATE CASE HISTORY
 Q BOOK
obgyn-90%, psych-90%, surg(1block only)-72%
OTHER MCQ SOURCES
nms,medrevu,mksap,kapQBank(inCDform) _ scoreN/A. kapQbank70-80%untimed.
UW_ ~900 Qns till now.
score in %: obgyn-62, psych-68, stats-58, prevmed-60, ophtho-70, skin-71, git-54!!!!! hepato-63, rheumato-64, surgery-56!!!!!
PLAN-FOR APRIL- PLAN OF TREATMENT
complete UW once timed subjectwise till 25th(?)april.Read kaplan text for 2 IM chapters & then do UW for 2topics w/ explns.while revising kap,u may need to refer to- FAstep1, FA-step2 (rarely maybe),pictures from atlas/google(dont postpone it),ekg,kaplan step1- all neuroanatomy, some cvs physio, FA step1-now immuno,genetics,pharmaA/B,some micro. Later,someday near exam,complete FAstep1. Within next 2days-revise your notes you made from nms/kabQbank etc,otherwise u wasted all that effort&time.Then only move onto further IM UW.
MY SHORTCOMINGS (in decreasing order of severity) PROGNOSTIC FACTORS
I have to do a lot of different sources while doing UW.But I've to do them bec I did step1 long time back.
I have to shift my frame of mind back&forth from being a mom to a student,and believe me its not easy to have to getup to take care of other concerns in middle of a study session .The big concession is that my adorable almost Angelic daughter really is like an energy booster for me. Today we r taking her to the zoo for the first time in her life.
I canNOT follow a day-by-day plan.I do not want to decide what I want to do 4 days from now. But I do stick to a broadly laid out biweekly schedule.Is this the same w/ everyone or is it just me. The 99ers post says they planned to do certain subjects in certain no. of days & did them.
I have to improve surgery in 2nd read of UW
My git scores went much below my avg63% because i wanted to take a shortcut without revising it from kaplan before doing UW.I guess I am not one of those geniuses who can skip hardwork.
I am really at a shortage of time due to my emotional ups & downs,which really makes me waste a lot of time. I think that the exam is not just a test of your IQ but also your EQ(emotional qt.).
GOOD PROGNOSTIC FACTORS
Despite all my shortcomings, when I do put in hardwork ,my UW scores are really encouraging to me. So off to work now. You r all welcome to share your thoughts.

Thanx kar,I wish cs prep was as easy as writing this post. Hope your prep is going fine.
After a little pep-up talk w/ my mother, Isat w/ Goljan36pages.Saw that it covered few facts for some Qns I got wrong in UW.Then I have to revise my notes of nms/kapQbank/mksap. Oh yes,I still turn to my mom for peptalk for exam despite being a mother myself. Do whatever it takes to keep a smooth consistent(very difficult)prep.

My progress has been verrrrrry slow.But I am preparing few IM topics which require me to consult a lot of step1. OK maybe there is no need to ,but i wont feel satisfied otherwise.So my prep right now is very complex-afew of this & a few of that.But I was re-re-re-re-reading kingsofke's post (for the umpteenth time)and he says that he also wasted 10-12 days partially fully while doing kap+UW+DVDs  . But his next revision was smooth & timed. Well he is the king, so lesser mortals like me can afford to be a little disorganised & slow now and then.. My aim for APRIL is to complete UW+goljan36pgs+ revise my notes of Q bank /nms etc,maybe throw in Qbook too. I have done ALL of these PARTIALLY.lets see.

hi.i do not know its origin.a friend gave photocopy to me.some people on this forum said if u dont have time ,this is sufficient.
I got 61% in heme -onco. I seem to be stuck w/ that range though I am doing UW topicwise. Long way to go.

I am really stuck at that score though i do it right after reading the chapter.Till now i have been attributing it to
 having taken step1 long time back.Absolutely no backup knowledge from there.But a friend encouraged me by sayingthat many people take 2ck before step1 & yet score great.
Lack of brains!
Lack of technique. OK tonight I MUST read kaplan strategies.

I 'HAVE TO' complet UW in april.
But I am revising kap notes in each topic before UW too.
You can do it. BUT please try to expand your study hours----please-please-please.
Try to incorporate some strategies to improve your score in UW.

I am preparing neuro & CVS. I wish I were one of those w/ excellent & recent step1 scores.
I had so many emotional tantrums in April.Wasted days&days.Now left w/ i12 of UW.But atleast I have tried to take care of all the personal aspects which were causing these episodes of feeling low & not studying. I have seen I go beserk if I donot take a saturday break w/ my family.I can do some UW explanations at my home while interacting w/ my daughter at the same time.It revitalises me for the coming week.
I hope God takes care of all of us going through this struggle.Our hopes are not hidden from Him. All of us are sacrificing something in this struggle.
All of you are welcome to share your thoughts (anything) here. I am that kind of person who needs lots of friends in this prep . All the best everyone.

hi i am on the same boat as u are. I,ve started recently doing UW but going v. slowly. My plan was to take CK in july &cs in aug--- but looks like i am atleast 1 month behind my schedule. ysterday nt i cldn't sleep at all now it's 11:30 am here ---haven't studied a word yet. supposed to read rheumato from KP +uw-45q exp after that. I am so depressed and tired.But we've to keep ourself motivated.let's forget about everything around us---just have to concentrate on studies--let,s see how much we can do today.

Thanks 3535. welcome agn. ysterday i didn't study a word. was feeling v low---took a test of rheumato Uw- sored in low60's. 3535 now you can guess my prep is not that good---if i study &than do q then my sore is pretty good-otherwise...... Ok lets try nour best to ace this test.BTW when do u guys wanna take ur test? i'll takein aug 1stwk.GL to u all.

Hi 3535, Good to see that you are working hard. Dont let the fluctuations in UW scores get you down. I think I learnt way more from answers to the questions that I got wrong than from the ones I got right as my tendency was to probably think that I knew all about what the explanation had to say! I got 56 on UW overall 3 months before my exam. I told myself "learning tool" over and over again so when I got like 40 something, I did not freak out entirely. My scores again depended on what topic I Was working on, so sometimes it would be in the 80s and I would feel "yay"!. Try not to let the highs and lows get to you, and like you said, NBME is the best overall predictor when you are ready. All the best.

Hey did Endo Qs today, still few left. Got 65% , never got this high in IM , so i am really happy !!
Thanks Lisa, that is what i have been going thru for last few weeks , did not score really well in UW , but i will definitely keep in mind what you said, u are right it is a learning tool.
I am taking my exam in mid June, really scared . I hope we all make it .

First of all, thanx a lot for dropping in.Whenever I was in my 'lows' ,I read your & kingsofke's posts. I plan to study 7weeks after mY UW,do you think its enough.have some personal constraints too.
I am revising step1 neuroanatomy now before doing neuro UW.It takes time to prepare this way,and even then I dont touch a 70(or 65 for that matter).I read kap strategies after a long time. It really had mentioned the same flaws I am making.

Hi 3535, thank you. I think mastering the question answering techniques are just as important as mastering the study material itself. Try to pay attention to the technique you use most frequently and fine tune it, but also try to learn other techniques and apply them too.
