what is nursemaid's elbow?

  #2

This is a radial head subluxation, common injury in children, in which child's elbow bones get partially pulled out of joints and do not line up normally. it may happen from swinging child by the arms or pulling arms. After the injury child cries and arm is protected against the body and bend in flexion and forearm turned in pronation.

u got it right................ how to manage it?

Ok, the first step parent can do, is to apply cool towel, or icebag. (may give tylenol or something else for pain). seek medical help. The doctor will move bones back-this is called bone reduction- in which while gently feeling radial head with one hand, doctor will hold the affectd hand and turn it palm upward(supination) wihle bending at the elbow. alternatively the forarm may straightened with the palm inward(pronation). After this click will be felt (or heard). after this child will be pain free,if not repeat the same procedure and do X-ray for possible bone fractures. Hope i fully answered your question.
