1) if a pregnant pt is mentally retarded and her parents demand abortion and the pt wants to continue pregnancy, what should the doctor do ??
and
2)While operating for appendix a surgeon sees ovarian tumor,he cannot resect the tumour without consent and will have to wait for pt to wake up... but can he take a biopsy without consent or he cannot even take a biopsy?
can someone pls explain these two situations to me.

Mentally retarded patient has a same right as other pt.
so no abortion
N0 biopsy, becuase you do not have consent. you have to have consent .

agree with 1..but as far as i remember from my step 1 days...doc could take a biopsy

srf and yasmeen are right...no abortion and no biopsy.
